Team 2:

Dee - 2 books Dee's Shelf
Lauren - 2 books 2015 SRC Summer
Bea - 2 books PAS Challenge
Lyn - 1 book archives

Remember: When picking books for team members, you pick the number they signed up for plus one. For example, I signed up for two books, so each person will pick three books for me to choose from.

Dee, I haven't read anything on your list, so I used the series titles as my selection criteria.

Sweet Caroline - "Blue Jeans and Hard Hats" sound enticing
Take Me Home - "Country Roads" reminds me of home
Night is Darkest - "Men in Blue" always sexy

Lauren, I used authors as my selection criteria

Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers - this writer makes science interesting
Grave Surprise - one of my favorite writers
The Clocks - a classic mystery writer with a classic protagonist

Lyn, my criteria for your picks was title birds.

The Nightingale
The Sparrow

message 5: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2689 comments Stiff is a great book - i hope you read it lauren - although i will say, listening to the audiobook made my stomach turn slightly...lots of ideas for waht i want done with my body when i do ;)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
My picks:

Dee

An Inconvenient Wife
Luck Be Delanie - Love this title
Love, Technically - And this title, too.

Lauren

What Remains of Heaven - a series I really want to start
Fireproof - I just started this series and am on book 3. I love them.
The Crossing Places - another series I want to start.

Bea

Never Let Me Go - This was a 5 star book for me.
Storm Front - My favorite series of all time. The first books are a bit average, but stick with it. They build on each other and it gets REALLY good.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - Beautiful book.

Bea wrote: "Lyn, thanks for the info on each book. I have been iffy about Never Let Me Go since Scatagories."

Did you try to read it and couldn't?

message 12: by Bea (new)

Bea | 5265 comments Mod
@Dee: yes, that is what you recommended - the next one in the series. I was just commenting that I am ready for it now. I am really liking this different take on demons and other immortals. Nice switch from all the vampires.

@Lyn: No, I haven't started it. I picked it for one of the Scatagory categories, but the cover has kinda put me off since. If my library has it, I may acutally try it on your recommend. (PS: I did not finish the Scatagory game. Lots of unread books left.)

message 13: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1216 comments Thanks Bea and Dee. I'm definitely going to read Stiff The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach - its for the SRC Challenge too :0)

message 14: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1216 comments Picks for Dee

Goddess of the Hunt (The Wanton Dairymaid Trilogy, #1) by Tessa Dare - I love Tessa Dare's Spindle Cove series.

I never seem to be able to finish Tien's games, lol. You are in good company. They are a lot of fun, though. She is so creative!

I may actually have to try the series that Dee and you were talking about if it has a different take on immortals. I am always looking for something different.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
Thanks for the recommendations, all. And as Bea said - we are ready to read!

message 21: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2689 comments this is what i have right now
Bea recommended Night is Darkest
Lauren - i think i can fit all 3 books into SRC this season (yikes!)
Lyn - likely Love Technically - but i need to see how a few other challenges play out

Thanks Lauren - I just finished A Discovery of Witches and loved it.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
I'll probably start with The Book of Life since I just finished with the first book in the series. Might as well start with the longest one, right?

message 24: by Bea (new)

Bea | 5265 comments Mod
I am going to start with Never Let Me Go, since Dee gives it a high rating and the cover has deterred me. I am going to see what is behind that horrible cover. Going to the library today.

I hope you like it, Bea. I'm glad that they had an alternate cover for you. :) What was it about the original cover that you didn't like?

The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy, #3) by Deborah Harkness is the third book. You must read the 2nd book first because the storyline is continuous.. Book 2 is Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, #2) by Deborah Harkness

Lyn (Readinghearts) wrote: "What was it about the original cover that you didn't like?"

The face. It said to me "leave me alone", while the words said something else. Just struggled to want to read this book, even though I chose it.

Ya - you are right. I just finished the first one, and am now reading the second on Shadow of Night. Next month I will be reading the third one, which will still fit for here.

message 40: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1216 comments Finished both books Archangel's Blade (Guild Hunter, #4) by Nalini Singh - really enjoying this series on audio

Stiff The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach - a fascinating if somewhat disturbing read. Not for the squeamish.

I have my first book out of the library, but will not start it until I get some others finished and returned.

I just finished Never Let Me Go for my first book. I gave it 3*, which means I enjoyed it but that it was not a book that engaged me like a 4* book can. I am glad that I read it. Interesting concept regarding disease and clones.

message 43: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2689 comments Lyn - i read Luck Be Delanie - cute second chance romance but i wanted more - the story was too short for me

message 44: by Bea (new)

Bea | 5265 comments Mod
I finished my second book last week, but I forgot to report here. Completed Succubus Dreams and gave it 4* for the entertainment factor. I really like this series, which is light and quick reads for me. Highly entertaining and refreshing.

I saw that you read Night is Darkest, but I did not see what your second book was.

Oh, yeah, now I see Luck Be Delanie.

So that leaves only Lyn.

message 49: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1216 comments I also read Grave Surprise (Harper Connelly, #2) by Charlaine Harris and What Remains of Heaven (Sebastian St. Cyr, #5) by C.S. Harris as well as the two subsequent books in both these series. What can I say - I'm hooked :0)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
I ended up reading The Nightingale which I really loved.
