Silvia Turcios | 304 comments I've chosen IT for my scary book, but I am still waiting for it from the library. IT is a so long book and I am so slow reader (that's why reading this book is so scary to me) that I am pretty sure I'll finish it at the end of the year :D Anyway I have been listening so many stories about how scary this book is that I am already eager to read it and be scared :)

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) I would never have the courage to read such a scary book! I wish you the best of luck.

Erica | 214 comments The movie terrified me as a child (I didn't watch it, just walked in on my dad watching it during one of the scariest scenes) so I haven't read it yet. However, I do love being scared now, so I'm adding it to my TBR list :)

Emily I didn't feel that It was as scary as some of his other books, overall - it almost reminded me more of his short story "The Body" (what the movie Stand By Me was based on) than one of his books that I found really scary (like The Shining). A lot of the book was more of a coming of age story than a scary thriller.

However, the parts that were scary were really scary.

I guess just don't expect a thrill-a-minute scary book. It's still very good, though, and when it's scary it's very scary. Just not as many scary scenes as I expected.

Silvia Turcios | 304 comments It's ok if the book is not scary, actually my favourite book from Stephen King is not scary at all (Different Seasons, The Body is one of the stories there), but I chose IT because is long and that terrify me hahaha if I find some scary moments, that will be a bonus :-)

Sounds good, Silvia. I think you'll like it then. If you like "The Body", I think you'll like IT. And there definitely are a few very scary scenes that should work for you. :)

Also, Different Seasons is an excellent book. Between "The Body" and "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption", its hard to go wrong. (The other two were good, as well - I actually really liked "The Breathing Method"... "Apt Pupil" freaked me out a bit, to be honest, but I'm pretty sure it was supposed to.) My favorite books of his tend to be his scarier ones, but I can't deny that his non-scary stuff can be really great.

Vanessa | 1 comments You have picked a fantastic book. I read this a few years ago & it scared the pants off me lol. I was looking over my shoulder alot while reading this (especially since I was reading this while catching the train to & from work). Don't be put off by the size of the book, I'm quite a slow reader also, this book is well worth the effort.

Steph I chose 'It' as well for my scary book and it did not disappoint! I saw the movie when I was younger and I was totally freaked out and had to sleep with the lights on for several nights. I am happy to report that I don't need night lights after reading the book but I did jump a few times!

Ashley (bibliophrenia) | 112 comments I gave up on this book about halfway in. I don't know what it is about Stephen King, but I just cannot get into his books. (Ha, I do agree that the scariest part is simply the size of this book!)

How did you end up liking this one?

Do you recommend The Body? I enjoy the Stand By Me movie, but am more into thrillers than anything else.

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) The size of the book is what scares me too. That is why I chose this book for this specific week. Only I got it in audiobook format and listen to it to/from work, so about 30 min a day.

I gave up :( not because I didn't like it, but because it was to looooooong and I am really couldn't do it for this challenge. I will read it eventually, but at the end, for my scary book I read The Exorcist... I feel so bad about IT :(

It's great! The Body is just one the four stories in Different Seasons and at least two of the other three were great too.

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) Well I finished miraculously I just don't care for the jumping around it does between past and present. There were times I was a little confused when that happened. But it was a pretty good book otherwise.
