Welcome! Tell us a little about yourself...where you are from, what you like to read, favorite book.

About Me
Military brat | empty nest Mom, 2 kiddos in college | live outside of Washington DC | love to travel | love football | wine lover | love to read!

With as crazy busy as my life is, I'm never without a book. I'm either reading on my kindle, on my phone or listening to an audiobook. Some of my favorite books are The Help, Gone Girl, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, Invisible Man, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and anything by James Patterson.

There's no better way to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger by simply asking "What are you reading?" and you have instant conversation ;)

Looking forward to reading and discussing with you!

Canadian Jen Hi Jamise! I'm Jen Hammill from Toronto, ONT CANADA. I'm not sure I have a favourite - love a variety of reads. My all time fave would probably be Gone with the Wind which I first read over 20 years ago. Right behind it would be Roots. Two books that have stayed with me throughout my reading path.
Look forward to sharing and reading books with this new group because let's face it, wine goes with everything especially books ;)

message 3: by J (new)

J Hi there! I'm Jill from Buffalo, NY. I have too many favorites to narrow them down, but two that stick out to me are Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close & The Invisible Wall. I mostly read fiction and memoir, though I actually love reading about wine. I've read quite a few bios and history of books Bc I am THAT interested. I also work in a wine store so.....

Welcome Jill and Jen!!! Thanks so much for joining. Happy to have you in the group.

Jill, I literally screamed when I saw that you work in a wine store...awesome!

Jen, I've never made it through Roots. I saw the serious years ago when it came out. I think now that I'm older I may be able to handle the book. Not sure because I didn't read or see 12 Years A Slave either.

Looking forward to discussing books with you!

Shelagh Rice Hi All, My name is Shelagh and I live in Dublin in Ireland. I like to read most genres except fantasy. My favourites are historical fiction, comtemporary fiction and mystery. I hope to get to know you all and look forward to finding new authors and get some recommendations.

Julia (juliace) Hi Jasmise, Jen, Jill and Shelagh!

Canadian Jen HI Julia, Jill & Shelagh!

Cathrine ☯️ Hello everyone. I'm Cathrine and was invited to join by Jen and see a a couple of familiar faces. My profile will tell you a little about myself. I especially love books and wine. Depending on the day not necessarily in that order :) A major hurdle with my groups is to join in on monthly reads so still hoping to make that a reality. I very recently read your first pick Eight Hundred Grapes and will post a link to my review on that thread. Look forward to getting to know you better. Thanks Jen ☺︎

message 11: by Irene (new)

Irene | 297 comments Hi, Irene Here from the shores of Lake Erie. I am joining this group because you support my favorite pass times, books and booze. Jill, how awesome to work at a wine store, almost as good as working at a library or chocolate shop, my third passion. Also, your September book has been on my tbr pile for a year, so this will get me to read it. I enjoy literary fiction and much non-fiction. I avoid anything with a zombi or vampire and any self-help (why tinker with perfection?) Looking forward to discussing books and wine with all of you.

Canadian Jen or I guess I should say "Gals" :D

message 17: by ❶Ĵܱ (new)

❶Ĵܱ | 2 comments Hi Gals! :) I was also invited by Jen to join your group. I live in Northern Virginia but am originally from IL and consider myself a midwestern girl at heart. I am a stay-at-home mom to 5 kids and 2 dogs and love to read in my spare time. I enjoy reading a variety of books but am not a huge fan of sci-fi/dystopian/YA (although some are okay). I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hi Julie!! I went to high school in Northern Va, Fairfax County. Welcome to the group!!! Wow, 5 kids...how do you find time to read. I just sent my son off to college and my daughter is in her last year of college. I'm enjoying my empty nest :)

Looking forward to getting to know you all as well. So nice of Jen to recommend my group.

Hi Jamise! Pretty name, by the way. Thanks for the welcome! (And thanks to Jen for the invite!) What a small world... I am in Fairfax County. I spent years not reading at all, or at least never finishing a book so I'm trying to play catch up. What exciting ages for your kids!

message 21: by Canadian Jen (new)

Canadian Jen My pleasure - I'm just starting to connect the dots - people whom I like, whom also like to read and the best, they also like to drink wine :D

I have two girls, 10 and nearly 8, and I wish that I had more time to read!

Cathrine ☯️ Wendy, the vines are just getting started over here. We're hoping for a really great harvest one day soon.

Hey All!!! I just joined the group. I am a proud Bookworm and have been for as long as I can remember. I love pretty much fiction books. I am a huge fan of Jane Green, Whitney Garcia Williams, Deborah Bladon, & Catherine Bybee. I have been on ŷ for a couple of years but mostly to keep track of my books I just recently started joining groups on the site and connecting with other readers across the world.

Cathrine ☯️ Hi Pinkie, nice to see you over here as well. We're like migrating birds stopping at any group watering hole that will let us drink :D

Welcome Nancy! First, I'm jealous that you live in little Napa. How awesome. I've throughly enjoyed my visits to Napa!

Jump right in and make yourself at home. We're a fairly laid back group. Looking forward to discussing wine and books with you.

Sara (saralumilintu) Hi, I'm kind of new to ŷ in general (joined, did nothing until recently) and I have been looking for a group of book talk and wine/whatever booze.

I poked around the That's Normal Boozy Book Club, but it seems more like something that is surrounding the people from That's Normal, so I've kept looking.

This looks pretty promising, so I'm glad I did!

Okay, anyway, hi, looking forward to drinking wine and talking about books with everyone :)

edit: Sorry, I didn't say anything about myself or what I like to read.

Fantasy, sci-fi, mystery/suspense the most, I suppose.

Also I am in Finland, I am married with two cats, and I play a bunch of musical instruments. Hi!

Daniel Balkwill | 2 comments Hi, I'm Dan. I'm British but run a wine business based in the Seychelles and write books in my spare time.
I love wine as you can imagine and love to combine enjoying a glass or three whilst reading a great book. My favourite authors are Robert Harris or Stieg Larsson. I love a good thriller although also enjoy checking out other genres too. My favourite wines are aromatic sauvignon blanc from New Zealand, elegant roses from Provence and big, bold reds from South Africa. Cheers!

message 43: by Irene (new)

Irene | 297 comments A wine business and a writer, what a wonderful combination. Welcome.

message 44: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Balkwill | 2 comments Thanks Irene. It's a great combo as long as the latter is not affected by over-enthusiastic amounts of the former!
