So I NEED a new book as I'm finding myself re-reading a lot of what I have on my tablet. when I go on the goodreads site and view a book I enjoyed and it gives 'similar book' link, they are NOT. I find nothing in those lists that I want to read. a lot of the times I will start a book and be really fed up with it after just a few chapters. I love Jamie mcguire and the maddox brothers stories etc. Belle Aurora friend zoned. Various books by Harper Sloan, Rachel Brooks, Colleen Hoover...... I need help finding my next read. I HATE insta love! Love a lead female with attitude. A bad boy now and again. Has to have humour. Any suggestions please?

I strongly suggest you add precise details of what you're looking for in the header. Many people don't click on a thread unless they know what you're looking for in terms of genre, at the least.

I'm not familiar with the authors you mentioned Samantha so is there any particular genre that you're looking for?

kimberly is closer to what I'm after. I apologise but I find it hard to put my thought into words. I guess it's more N/A Y/A stuff I'm after. young characters (not necessarily teenagers) I don't mind the whole paranormal thing either. basically. I like a bit of everything. I'm still not making this easier. ugh.

Kat Richardson is a great author - her books, the Greywalker series - female lead, a few funny bits, supernatural too.

Also highly suggest Garth Nix's Abhorsen collection - Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen

I understand how it can be hard to describe what you are looking for. Maybe if you tell us why you didn't like the books you tried?

ooooo that's a good one Nadine. the reason I didn't like most new books I tried was because as soon as the lead female sees the hot guy she's automatically "I have the strangest urge to lick him and see how he tastes" and "ooh gee. I can't be drooling all over this stranger. no mater how kissable those lips look" that kinda rubbish!! grinds on me. I don't mind a bit of smut but first meetings and that inner analogue... *eye roll*. insta love stuff is bad. I want something similar to beautiful disaster where Abbie tries to avoid Tavistock and everything. the build of friendship even tho they both clearly want more. the jokes and the banter....

Sounds like you're looking for novels with a strong heroine, well-rounded characters, believable romance, and good dialog.

If so then Lobstergirl's suggestion of Gone With the Wind is a *great* one :)

If you don't mind historical fiction, you might try The Child from the Sea, Forever Amber, Salem's Daughter, Through a Glass Darkly, Wings of the Falcon.

If you don't mind a little fantasy or sci-fi mixed in, try Dragonflight and Dragonquest, The Riddle-Master of Hed, The Silver Metal Lover, or Sharon Shinn's Samaria series starting with Archangel.

I have looked at all those suggestions and although I appreciate your help it's not what I'm after. I'm more into new age books. college, newly graduates. young characters but not children or early teens coz u don't get as much attitude and fire from them. also apologise for the randoms words etc. I'm not checking my typing and auto correct seems to be changing most words. oops

Probably David Nicholls One Day, the characters start out N/A aged.

Looking up Hoover gives me Emma Winterling, Abbi Glines, and Jessica Sorensen as similar authors (none of which I read, so dunno - but all seem to be N/A oriented)

I read project17 last summer and it as really good.

I second The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend it's a fun read.

Also I think you will really enjoy Cracked because this trilogy is freaking fabulous. Snarky lead female and no romance connected to her. I's brilliant. I haven't read the last book yet cuz I haven't been able to get my hands on it unfortunately.

You might like Awaken. I know I did.

Possibly perfect chemistry books. Especially the first I think it has a bad boy and a good girl with a little attitude. Maybe even some of the others too.

I assume you've read the TWILIGHT series. If not, I liked that one.

Try Agatha H and the airship city

Have you tried DOMINIC or Puckedboth great book with a lot of drama and humor

I hadn't read much in a long time either until a friend introduced me to this author. If you like fantasy, these two series should suit you. Strong female lead character and some good humorous scenes.
