I was thinking it would be a good idea to make a place other than the suggestions thread to talk about what we want to read. Unlike the monthly suggestions thread this one will never be deleted. I already made one of my suggestions, I was thinking maybe a dan simmons book for my second one but I havnt decided which one anyone have any of his books on their tbr they would want to vote for if I suggested it?

Char I've read pretty much everything by Dan Simmons.
I would highly rec. The Terror (but it's VERY long) or Carrion Comfort (also long) or Summer of Night which has 4881 reviews and comes out as a 3.96 average rating. This one was also very long.
I may be willing to re-read one of these if it is chosen.

message 3: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I have Fires of Eden. But any Dan Simmons book I'd probably vote for.

Carrion comfort is one of my al time favorites but for sone reason I never read another one after that. I dont think he has any books that arnt really long but I figure with the group reads we are stretching it out over an entire month so it should work out all right. The terror and summer of night are both ones I have been wanting to read along with children of the night.

That one dont sound bad, but I have a stack of his other books and would rather read one of those before I bought more I would have to look it up on Amazon and check the price, I havnt been to the used book store here in town in awhile either, I found some of his other ones there.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 267 comments So far, I'm the only one I know who didn't care for Carrion Comfort. I think I went in with unrealistically high expectations and not only was it long, it felt long. Long and slow. It might have been just a mood thing but for whatever reason I couldn't get into it.

The Terror was fantastic. It didn't feel as long as it was and his research on the material was impeccable.

Summer of Night was also excellent. His Hyperion trilogy got great reviews but I didn't care for that one either. He's a real hit or miss for me.

I see Song of Kali come up a lot in threads so that's high on my TBR list.

message 7: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Which ones do u have? I'm going to a couple of old bookstores. Maybe I'll find a good Dan Simmons book. That's how I came along Fires of Eden.

Seriously, about Hyperion? Wow. Those were the first books by Dan Simmons that I read. I don't remember much about them now, other than that I was crazy about them. I was a teen when I read them though, so that may have affected my judgement. :)

message 9: by William (new)

William (wmcc) I've only read a couple of Simmons books,Summer of Nightand Hardcase and i really liked both of them.I think i would have read more of his books if they weren't so long(i just never have the time now),although The Terror and song of Kali both interest me.

Another author i want to read more of is Robert Mccammon.I was thinking of nominating
MineorStingeranyone read them?

I would read either one of those mccammon books but would be more likely to vote for stinger.

Would anyone be interested in reading the first dexter book by jeff lindsay? I just finished season 7 of the tv show and need something to hold me over untill season 8 is out.

message 12: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I wouldn't mind reading Mine. I have that one along with They Thirst and one that is a sequel, but I won't b reading that one til I find the first one.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I do have The Terror so I am going to make that my second choice. I am hoping The Pilo Family Circus wins but if it dont look like it is going to I would be happy to change my vote and read anything that has been suggested so far.

message 14: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments William, did u still wanna read Harbor? I'm all for it if u still want to.

message 15: by William (new)

William (wmcc) Addy, would you mind if we put it off until early march?
I still want to read it,but I'm snowed under at work at the moment and don't have a lot of spare time.I'm even struggling with this month's group read.Lol!!!

message 16: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments No that's totally fine. March works better for me too.

message 17: by William (new)

William (wmcc) Thanks Addy.

message 18: by Scott (new)

Scott (ttownscott) The Terror sounds great. I read Ilium and Olympos by Dan Simmons and (while not horror) thought they were great.

message 19: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I'm wanting to read Wild Night Is Calling. Maybe I will nominate that one next time. Or if anyone wants to buddy read, let me know.

message 20: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Wild Night Is Calling is a short story. It is on my kindle so if you want to make a thread in the book folder I will read it tonight and discuss it with you

message 21: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Yeah sure. I didn't know it was a short story.

message 22: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Wild Night Is Calling is a 6000 word short story by thriller writer J.A. Konrath (Shaken, Trapped) and romantic suspense writer Ann Voss Peterson (A Cop in Her Stocking, Seized By The Sheik).

i dont know how many pages that transfers to, it has to be a fairly long "short story" since it is co-written by two people. its been on my tbr for awhile now i will read it when i get to work, i might not get a chance to comment until i get home though.

I found Breeder at the used book store today so if that gets suggested again I will be ready. I also bought The Beloved Guardian Angels and Mr. Shivers if anyone is Interested in a buddy read or thinks one of them would be a good group read let me know.

I know its a ways off before the next poll but just so I don't forget I want to mention Hag Night

message 25: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Ok since Cannibal Corpse, M/C is free right now I will probably suggest that instead of hag night. The suggestion thread will go up this Sunday when I change the spoiler warning on the terror to 50%

There where so many good suggestions last month I might just throw one of those back out there. Maybe Frostbite since I have been meaning to read a David Wellington for awhile now.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Are you reading The Girl Next Door with horror aficionados this month cate? I plan on starting it tonight.

message 29: by Cate (new)

Cate | 107 comments No, I just decided I'll read it whenever I have the money to buy a copy and actually have free time to read it. I've been reading The Stand for what seems like an eternity, so I'm just trying to finish that right now. In a few weeks I'll have to start reading Angela's Ashes for my Late British Literature class, and that's a pretty thick book, too. Whenever spring break comes around I plan on doing a lot of catching up from my "to read" list, and I'm probably going to read The Girl Next Door during the break.

message 30: by Cate (new)

Cate | 107 comments Oh, and I'll probably want to start reading Midnight Tour during the break, too, if you're down for that. (My break doesn't start until March 29)

I will wait until the ebook is out before I suggest it but would anyone vote for this? Bigfoot Crank Stomp Bigfoot Crank Stomp by Erik Williams

message 34: by 11811 (Eleven) (new)

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 267 comments The plot sounds awesome on that one.

message 35: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I didn't see this until after I spent my amazon gift card or I would have gotten the paperback of it instead of what I did buy which was Mangled Meat. I'm not sure when the ebook comes out but I will probably buy it as soon as it does.

message 36: by Robert Krone (new)

Robert Krone | 157 comments I am considering suggesting Rick Hautala's The Wildman due to his recent death. This was already on my list of books I wanna get to this year, but his sudden death might have to bump it up further. I have the Hardcover, but the Kindle edition is free to borrow for Prime members.

Also thinking about Douglas Clegg's Neverland as I have not read anything from him in a little while now. Meant to read Neverland last year, but never got around to it.

Also thinking of the 40th Anniversary of The Exorcist since I just recently got my limited edition copy from Lonely Road Books.

message 37: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments All of those sound excellent!

message 38: by Glen (new)

Glen Krisch I like the idea of reading a Hautala title.

message 39: by Scott (new)

Scott (ttownscott) I purchased Hautala's The Mountain King and haven't read it yet.

i would read the wild man if it won, i might even vote for it depending on what else is suggested.

message 41: by 11811 (Eleven) (new)

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 267 comments I'll throw in Abandon since it's free today for Kindle and has been near the top of my TBR pile for a while. I hear its his best novel that leans more toward horror than thriller.

it's also one of the few of his I hadn't read. good choice!

message 43: by Scott (new)

Scott (ttownscott) That sounds really interesting. Just picked it up. Someone should recommend it for May

message 44: by Robert Krone (new)

Robert Krone | 157 comments I am debating recommending The Mountain as my 2nd recommendation as it is cheaper than Clegg's Neverland and Blatty's 40th Anniversary of The Exorcist. Neverland is the cheaper of the other two, but I am thinking they might be better as buddy reads.

one more day to get your suggestion in for May, remember that this thread is just an ongoing discussion and any recommendations need to be submitted through the May group read suggestions thread. I am going to add abandon for eleven because I believe he is on vacation and allready told me that's what he wanted to suggest but other than that I am not taking books out of this thread when I make the poll.

message 47: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Totally understand. Joe's book isn't even out yet. Just thought it make a great future read.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
yea I know, you have submitted yours in the right place anyway. I just figured if I posted here to let people know it's the last day then anyone who has posted suggestions in this thread will get a notification and see my comment. I'm going to start doing this every month rather than send out broadcast messages. then I will broadcast when the pools ends, I'm just trying to keep broadcasts to a minimum.

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

I had noticed that Going Monstering was suggested for the May group read. It's an absolutely fantastic read but as it's as short I'm not sure anyone would enjoy reading it at 25% a week. Would it be worth doing a weekly or fortnightly group read for short stories or short novellas alongside the monthly novel one?

message 50: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
thanks for pointing that out, I thought it was a novel. I will probably just delete it and see if anyone wants to do a group read with me.
