Karol | 184 comments I've been largely absent from my online activities the last couple of weeks. With the changing seasons has come some challenges this year . . . As things get back to "normal" (whatever that is!), I've realized that how much I read and the types of things I read tend to shift and change. Sometimes I crave biography, sometimes intrigue, and sometimes something "homey" like Jan Karon's Mitford series.

How about you? Do you often find your reading shifting from one "season" to another? Why do you think it happens (or doesn't happen) for you?

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments My reading also shifts in patterns. Not exactly based on "seasons" though, it's more like... have you ever become obsessed with one kind of food (peanut butter and jelly, maybe, when you were a kid or pizza in college) or at least gone through a phase where you just couldn't get enough of it? You had it (or at least wanted it) for every meal and snack, until one day you managed to sate yourself (and then couldn't bear the sight or scent of that food for months!). That's kind of the way I read, usually. I'll read everything I can get my hands on by a certain author (or genre or subject) until I can't stand the thought of opening another one of those books... and then I'll move on to another type and do the same thing with that one. Eventually I'll get back 'into' an author (or genre or subject) that I've set aside and continue along my merry (obsessive) cycle :) I thought that was just the way people read (or listened to music, or watched movies) until some of my friends commented on it!

Karol | 184 comments Stacie, I think I like your analogy better than mine! Great comment.

Amanda Stacie, I am exactly like that with so many things, I have an extremely addictive personality. That is how I am with food, music, books...

Margaret Chind (cherryblossommj) | 89 comments Right now my reading has severely been limited due to just no desire. I blame it on the pregnancy hormones!

Penny Most of my reading revolves around what my book clubs are reading or what we are reading for homeschool. Although lately, I am craving recreational reading. Just sitting down for a half hour to read something grabbed from one of my many to-read piles. Soaking in some poetry. Living someone else's story. Learning about myself. Understanding a new idea. All the reasons I read. So, I think I'm hoping for a summer reading season. Purely fun and frivolous. (Although, I'll still be reading for book clubs and homeschool :))

Karol | 184 comments Hi, all! Lately, I've found that my reading time is extremely cut down due to a job change. I'm adjusting back to a 40-hour a week pace after having worked part-time for over a year. My only reading time is before work (but I have to leave the house at 7am, so there's not much there unless I wake up super-early) or at the end of the day before going to sleep (and there, I find that I'm getting bleary-eyed in 20 minutes or less!)

I find that I'm enjoying my reading time all the more, however. Lately, I feel like I've been living with the character Aiden from the novel "Byzantium" by Stephen Lawhead. It's an amazing epic, and I find myself thinking about the book several times each day. Since I've been at it for about 3 weeks - well, let's just say this is likely a book I'll remember for a very long time!
