Just wanted to let you know I'm finished with the first half! No rush :)

Abbi I'm enjoying this one a lot! I really like both Faith and Gil!

I was so happy with how perfectly Gil responded when Faith told him that she no longer believed in God. I knew he wouldn't purposely say something that would upset her but in that situation it's hard to know what to say and I think he handled it beautifully!

Polly is driving me nuts! I hate when people act like that, making everything about them and being pushy! I was impressed with how Faith was able to keep her cool cause I know I'd have gotten fed up!

I was surprised by Rev. Chadwick's stroke but I am really glad he is doing better! I hope he makes a full recovery!

I really enjoying it too! I agree, they are both great!

I was too! I agree, he handled it wonderfully! I don't read back covers to author I know I liked, so I was surprised when the book started out with Faith thinking about her disbelief.

Oh, she is driving me crazy too! Agree with your whole statement! I definitely don't think I would have behaved as gracefully about it, I think I would have lost my cool and said something I would have regretted.

I wasn't surprised, the build up to it reminded so much of a different book that I was kind of expecting something to happen to him, but I'm glad that he's dong better! I too am hoping he makes a full recovery :)

I love how Gil was willing to risk his life to save the young Indian boy. It was horrible how the braves who first saw Gil treated him and that they refused to listen to what Runs Like a Deer was telling them, since it seemed like he was defended Gil and trying to explain that he was helping him. I was really glad when Makes Healing arrived and saw to Gil's injuries. It was funny how Makes Healing offered Gil a wife from among his people (would he have expected Gil to live among them?), and thought the way Gil refused was very diplomatic.

I didn't like how Gil lied about his Indian encounter, even though I kind of understood why he did it. I would have much preferred it if he had said most of what happen, but just left out the location details. I have a bad feeling that because the cavalry is going to be searching for them they might find their camp and then the Indians will think Gil told on them.

Abbi I completely agree! I was very impressed with how Gil handled the whole situation!

I didn't appreciate the lying either but if he told them he'd been beaten by Indians then the calvary would be obligated to do everything they could to find the Indians and Gil didn't want to risk that. The way he told it kept them from pursuing the Indians too hard.

What happened in Gil's past was a bit of a shocker! I totally had not guessed that as what he had been alluding to!

I felt bad for Mrs. Henderson and Billy with how they had to eke out a living after Mr. went to prison. I think I'd have felt the same way upon learning of his death!

I was expecting something pretty bad, but I was shocked by what it was too! I hope more details will be coming about it soon. I'd like to know what caused her to be shot as well as a few other things, like was he planning on marrying her.

Same here. It's nice what the church is doing, helping her out, sometimes churches can be all talk and no action.

It was king of ironic how with a few days of taking over for his dad Gil had to do both a funeral and a wedding, kind of covering both ends of emotions.

Abbi Yeah I definitely want more details!

I had the same thought!

Well I couldn't think of anything else-you?

Finished! Oh this book was so good!

When George came to get Gil because Dovie was injured and was shocked by the cruelty Yancey - if that's even his real name! It's so hard to believe someone can be so gentlemanly but all the while harboring such hate that he inflicts in upon another person. I really don't know why he didn't just lash out at Faith to be honest, since he had to know that he'd have to flee the area anyway and her parents were already asleep so who would be around to stop him? I hope that we find out he was captured in the next book.

I loved the wisdom and love Milly showed when Faith came to her for help on his disbelief, that Milly didn't get upset with her and ask her to leave...like Faith had feared she would. Instead she showed such grace and gave such easy to understand advice, it was wonderful to see it all click together for Faith!

I do think it was very foolish of her to refuse Milly's offer of an escort, especially when she had such a terrible horse that she had been silently complaining about on the ride to Milly's place. But I did love her reasoning for not wanting it, how she wanted to pray and sing :) Too bad that's part of what drew Black Coyote Heart's attention to her.

The scene where Gil goes to find Faith and gets captured, again, by the Indians was so intense! Even though I didn't think anything permanently bad was going to happen to them, for once I wasn't sure. My heart was racing when Gil was fighting Black Coyote Heart!

Abbi I agree! So good!

That SHOCKED me! I mean I kinda figured something was up with him but I never expected what he did! And I too was kinda curious as to why he didn't hurt Faith but I kinda think that fact that he was drinking played a part in it. I really hoped he is captured in the next book too though I kinda think he's long gone.

I loved that too! Milly handled it so well and it was really cool to watch it all make sense to Faith.

I know! I was silently yelling at her not to do it!

Oh my yeah that was a crazy scene! I was trying to figure out how Gil could win with out killing and I really didn't see anyway but I was glad he found a way and they were able to get away!

I loved how Sarah and Milly worked it so that Gil could buy Faith's basket! And I was also glad that Polly's guy came back so hopefully there'll be no more of her conniving!

I really liked how Faith's dad realized what he'd been accidentally doing to Faith and how he made steps to fix it!

That was great! It's funny how they knew that Gil would probably need help in order to get to buy Faith's basket. I loved how Faith decided to decorate her basket with remnants from her dress, but thought it was lousy how Polly reacted when she saw it...just because she didn't think to do the same thing! I love how Polly's man came back, it was just so perfect, and hope as well that this means she'll be done conniving.

I did too!

I was kind of surprised to learn all of Gil's secret. From the thoughts he had I thought the woman died without becoming his wife, but when I read that he did the right thing and married I was confused at first. Why would any woman willing put herself back into that lifestyle? I know it does happen, but I don't understand their reasoning and probably never will. In a way it reminded me of Redeeming Love except Gil's wife never learned from her mistakes. Which was so sad.

Gil and Faith sure didn't wait to get married did they. It sounds like they are getting married 2 (maybe 3) weeks after their release from the Indian camp. I'm glad their getting married and that they weren't waiting, but it was just a little surprising to me.

Abbi Yeah all of Gil's secret surprised me too! And I completely agree with the rest of what you said except I haven't read Redeeming Love yet. What's your take on that book?

Haha yeah they did move kinda quick on that though I wasn't overly surprised due to the fact that people did get married a lot quicker back then!

Well I couldn't find anything else-you?

Well...it's been a long time since I've read it, so nothing's fresh, but I do remember that when I read it I couldn't put it down and I did love it. It's based on the story of Hosea and set in 1800's in the west - I loved that! It was my second favorite of Francine River's books, my top favorite is The Atonement Child - have you read that one?

I can't think of anything else either. I enjoyed reading/discussing this book with you :)

Abbi I love The Atonement Child! I read it a few years ago and it was so good! Yeah I've heard lots of people say they loved it and I really should get around to reading it soon!

I enjoyed it too!!
