Right now I can't see how anyone could be team Warner lol so I'm guessing we'll be getting a lot of backstory later on!

When i started the book I knew Adam and warner should be the love interests, but really when you first meet them, they don't seem like that at all.

I heard this on audio, and would hear a sound like a pen crossing something off a list. I took that as something Juliette thought, but then thought wasn't right or shouldn't be right. Kind of like something she'd write in a personal diary but is a thing she'd never want anyone to know. It's her real, honest feeling, but she doesn't think it's appropriate.

I agree with DeAnna, Jenny - there's no way you can imagine being Team Warner until you've read Destroy Me, especially. And if you haven't yet read Unravel Me, be sure to read Destroy Me first. It explains a huge amount of backstory, and is much more revealing than other novellas I've read. By the time you get to Unravel Me, you are seriously conflicted.

I felt the same way when I read this. It sounded very much like a first author trying too hard. And what David said about the romance - I agree - but on the other hand, I think that has more to do with the idea that nobody can touch her. And I thought that whole world they found when they broke out of the compound was WAY too convenient. Unravel Me is so so so much better.

Ok cool, well I'll look forward to that one too :) Yeah, good point on the romance, you're right, the not having anyone except touch her definitely makes for a good reason for all of it.

And to Lola's point about the book being depressing, she's exactly right, there's really no humor in it...like, at all lol!

I don't really like books that are too depressing, sure bad stuff happens, but there must also be some light stuff, hope or humor or something like that. Probably that combined with the writing style, just made sure it wasn't a book for me.

I agree with Jenny, it does seem to be the kind of book that people either love or hate. I have heard some people that totally agree with me, but also people that don't get why I didn't like it because they did love it.

Not sure how far u have gotten yet David but there is a good amount of humor once I get farther. The book was a little depressing but to me it was so interesting and different that I couldn't put it down. And I have to say, as much as I hate warren and love Adam, once I read destroy me and unravel me, I wasn't sure what team I was on, lol. I love the author as well, she is hilarious!

Ok cool, thanks Alison! I'm at 75% now and still no humor hehe, or at least nothing that's really made me laugh. But I don't really need it as it a rough world they live in!

Well I guess the humor really comes from one person, I thought he was hilarious, he kept me laughing, but mayb he isn't in the story yet, I've read so many book after shatter me that I forgot the timeline.

I just started reading this yesterday. And it's such a page turner!

Was it Kenji? I didn't find him particularly funny, but the banter did pick up right at the end. I wouldn't say laugh out loud, but definitely a few smirks ;) I fully expect it to get a lot funnier in the next book with all of "them" together lol!

LOL! I was totally thinking the same thing at the exact same time!

I finished! Well, I LOVED the first 50% and was kinda, sorta meh on the second 50% :( I thought it would be a five star read for me but ended at probably 3.5 stars although I'll round up to 4 because of how enamored I was for the first half. (view spoiler)[ It pretty much turned into X Men without even much creativity about their powers. All the normal stuff. I'd have preferred if she was unique (although I suspect her powers are pretty unique and more powerful than anyone else), or maybe just the fewest of few people with powers, maybe her, Adam, and Warner. I thought once they started their escape there were quite a few holes in the story and the writing lost of its uniqueness. Aside from the powers, the plot is pretty much stock standard dystopian. Bad government. Rebellion. That sort of thing. Not bad, but not captivating. And why oh why did Warner go off with her alone without backup knowing how dangerous she is? And then just leave Adam hanging there with no one watching him? Ummmm, made no sense, all way too easy!

So overall it was sort of a discouraging read considering how much I enjoyed the first half. Really the only thing that makes me want to read the sequel is how people are saying Warner has some interesting backstory and is more 3-dimensional than he seems in the first book. I'll have to decide whether to push on with it... (hide spoiler)]

Don't worry, there a very good chance you'll like it as a lot of people did :) It just wasn't the direction I was hoping it would go in, especially after what we found out in that spoiler you just put, I LOVED that part, sooooo cool!

They escape without any issue, go to a chemical field where they are both immune, have a TANK (yes, a tank) hidden away, and the serum has magically disappeared. I don't trust this... Well I just finished but still need to think of my overall rating I think. (view spoiler)[ I still don't understand how anyone is team Warner! I loved Adam in this book. I thought the ending when all the standard powers started coming out made the story fall a bit flat. I guess I expected some more uniqueness in that part. I thought some of Kenji's banter was pretty entertaining but if I didn't know better, this book felt almost like two different books from the beginning to the end.

I really love the romance aspect of dystopian books but I felt like this one was a bit too much and I'm usually the one saying I want to see more of the relationship. I think it just felt overpowering in his book and there were major plot points that felt diminished by the relationship. It kind of took the main plot over.

So, basically, I guess what I'm tying to say are there were parts I loved and then there were parts that just fell flat and felt cliche. I will probably continue to read but I don't feel a burning desire to start the next one now. A bit of a disappointment from how much I was starting to enjoy it. I'll probably give it a 3 star rating in the end. (hide spoiler)]

I promise you guys that Unravel Me is way better than Shatter Me! So if you're on the fence, I'd at least give it a try. You can always DNF it!

Clockwork Prince gives us insight into both Jem's and Will's worlds. I ended up loving them both better, lol!

I agree, I really loved Unravel Me! A lot of character development for Juliette! Also plenty of action!

WHOA I STAYED UP UNTIL 4 AM TO FINISH THIS BOOK. It was SO AWESOME. I loved it so much!

EXACTLY! That whole X-men thing came out of nowhere! I really wasn't overly thrilled with this one either. It's like she led us down one path and then sprang that whole x-men ending on us. Made absolutely no sense at all to me. But. . . Unravel Me is pretty amazing. Go figure. Kenji is hilarious in it, and the whole world-building thing is so much clearer. And Destroy Me has a lot of worldish backstory as well as Warner's perspective.

Lol ok cool well I'll have to consider reading the other books then! Glad I wasn't alone in my thoughts of the ending :)
