Jon (jonmoss) I am posting all the discussion topics at the beginning of May because I will be traveling most of this month and won't be available to post them as I usually do each week.

Spoilers are allowed for all previous books in the Wheel of Time series and up through the end of A Memory of Light.

For we have reached the end, or perhaps just another beginning, another turning in the Wheel of Time.

I hope you enjoyed this group read of this epic fantasy series. I know I have. Thank you for joining me.

Kirsten | 7 comments Does anyone think Olver is Gaidai?
What is the power that Rand uses at the end, does anyone know?

Charlotte (lostoceans) | 13 comments I would like Olver to be Gaidai but wasn't Olver born before Birgitte came out? and I think she said Gaidai was still in the dreamworld (I'm not going to try to spell it :)).

The new power I think is Saidar, Sadin and the true power all merged together and controlled with thoughts like in the dreamworld. possibly no more weaves...?

Kirsten | 7 comments Yeah from Olvers age he was born before Brigitte came out of dreamworld but she did say that time works differently there at one point so it still could possibly be him I think. Also no Gaidai had been born before Brigitte came out and bonded Elayne.
And yes thats possible it seemed like the way things are controlled in dreamworld I just wasn't sure why he could suddenly do it but maybe it is all 3 powers mixed and would of sucked if he was just suddenly powerless.

"By instinct, he reached for the One Power to light it.
He found nothing. No saidin in the void, nothing. He paused, then smiled and felt an enormous relief. He could not channel. Just to be certain, he tenatively reached for the True Power. Nothing there either.
He regarded his pipe, riding up a little incline to the side of Thakan'dar, now covered in plants. No way to light the tobac. He inspected it for a moment in the darkness, then thought of the pipe being lit. And it was."

There's very little said on the new Power. It might only effect Rand, as reading back through the epilogue in Perrin's POV, Lan mentions gateways had been made. And in Loial's POV he observe's Aviendha was being healed. Modhedien also channels and as it's her POV she mentions nothing different or strange about Saidar.

Another detail which should be noticed is that Rand still has the bonds with the three women, they were made with Rand's saidin. Not sure what this means :)

So I'm thinking Rand must be unique with this new power and that it came when he used all three Powers.

"Rand hurled the Powers forward with his mind and braided them together. Saidin and saidar at once, the True Power surrounding them and forming a shield on the Bore.
He wove something majestic, a pattern of interlaced saidar and saidin in their pure forms. Not Fire, not Spirit, not Water, not Earth, not Air. Purity. Light itself. This didn't repair, it didn't patch, it forged anew.
With this new form of the power, Rand pulled together the rent that had been made here long ago by foolish men."

Kirsten | 7 comments Yeah he still has the bonds I thought that a bit odd since hes in a different body so technically he died. But it was saidar that bonded them not saidin, Elayne did it using some of the technique from the bonding she and Aviendha went though.

Charlotte (lostoceans) | 13 comments Welcome Matt!

It's possible, but I'm not sure how likely: ter'angreal and angreal usually serve a useful purpose and function and they usually don't have a functioning shape. I guess a self lighting pipe could be considered useful to some, but it doesn't seem as useful as any other that we have seen.

the other thing is we know Rand can't use any of the original 3 powers so the Ter'angreal would have to be useable by anyone with power or without, and very few ter'angreal or angreal are like that. I think the only ones seen in the entire series was Mat's fox medallion and the seachen rings. Neither used conscious thought to do anything they only worked when touching the users skin.

Where did Rand get the pipe? Is it or any other pipe mentioned during the Last Battle? Possibly one of the forsaken had it?
I won't dismiss that it could be a ter'angreal it just from my memory I can't remember anything similar. To be honest it has been a while since I read them.

Nolan Haynes | 1 comments The pipe that Rand uses is a normal pipe. I believe it's still the effect of Rand being ta'varen.

Helen | 1 comments Just finished, wow. I think it's a new power just for Rand. Feeling quite happy with the end although I did shed tears along the way.
