Anna D. | 44 comments I recently read some BBW where we're given wonderful plus size heroines and they are usually paired up with super-fit muscled heroes. I love them, but I'm wondering if there are any good books out there where it's the hero that is not our usual definition of physical perfection. Looking for lovable chubby heroes... I'd appreciate a recommendation. I'm so curious to read one.

Goge (BARRONS) le Moning Maniac, | 288 comments Oooh me too! Someone give us a recommendation! Meatier guys are so indescribably huggable! And there's this sexy charming quality to them that I suppose is in the eye of the beholder since there aren't that many heroes I've read who can claim to be 'chubby' ect.
I'm reading Blow Me Down by Katie MacAlister and the hero has somewhat of a tummy (he calls it his beer gut but our heroine claims “You don’t have a beer gut." “You have a tiny little tummy that I like. A lot. Can I lick your belly button?

Goge (BARRONS) le Moning Maniac, | 288 comments I haven't read this but Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane has an unconventional hero.

Goge (BARRONS) le Moning Maniac, | 288 comments I'd also like to read about a hero who's not all about looks. I heard Lord of Scoundrels (Scoundrels, #3) by Loretta Chase has an unconventional hero too.

Anna D. | 44 comments Blow Me Down sounds good! I'm definitely checking that one out. Thanks Goge!!

Lord of Scoundrels is a great read! The hero there is described as ugly actually - he's a big, strong, muscled man. Great story with a great unconventional hero - definitely a Beauty/Beast theme - but not a chubby bear hero :)

Goge (BARRONS) le Moning Maniac, | 288 comments Thanks Anna :) Blow Me Down isn't a book that stresses about looks much, just a fore-warning. Ohh ok. Thanks! About Lord of Scoundrels. It's really difficult to find a 'chubby' hero:/

Give Us This Day has a very heavy hero. This is a Christian romance.

Kryptonite (sg34) | 406 comments Zen and the Art of Vampires: hero's not chubby but it does mention a little tummy.

namericanwordcat | 242 comments It is hard to find a chubby hero. I like big men myself and think we could stand some less objectified heros. I read one book where the hero was chubby but it wasn't well written so I can't remember it--its was Science Fiction Romance and I can recall historical where the hero lost a lot of weight after he quit drinking.

Here though is a list of Plain Joes.

Anna D. | 44 comments Thanks for the list and recommendations all! I'm not giving up on the search... Maybe if there's demand for it, writers will start giving us some chubby heroes. They deserve some love too! :)

namericanwordcat | 242 comments For sure!

I can vouch for Give Us This Day. It was fantastic. It made me hope that more authors will have a hero who struggles with his weight. Jess was such a wonderful hero!

message 13: by McGee Magoo (new)

McGee Magoo Yesterday I was going through the giveaways and I found Overweight by Kerry Taylor It's the first of four books (I think) about people looking for love in Weight watchers. It sounded like 2 of them were guys. So maybe a series with overweight heroes??

SheReadsALot | 27 comments If you don't mind MM - Chaser by Rick R. Reed & Tell Me It's Real by T.J. Klune feature chubby heroes

namericanwordcat | 242 comments Now, I did not care for this book but I did buy it because it had a chubby hero.

Moonsteed by Manda Benson

Carolyn F. In Mirror Dance by Lois McMaster Bujold (I can't pull up a link to this book) the clone brother makes himself overweight in order to not be recognized as Miles. And he still finds romance when he's at his biggest in the next book he's in.

It's a great series Danielle - I'm very late in the game for getting into it. If you like sci-fi, you'll love the series. The first books in the series are still my favorite.

I have Shades of Honor and Young Miles in the pile. Are they related?

message 21: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Yes, Shards of Honour is about how Miles' Mom and Dad met. That my absolute favorite of the series so far. Just love those two together.

I was wondering if it's related to Mirror Dance.

message 23: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. It's part of the series. Mirror Dance is about the unknown clone brother. The whole series is about the Vorkosigan family in order, parents meet, baby's born, boy grows up. Miles is a great character too, born with birth defects from his mother being poisoned, he has brittle bones but wants to be a soldier. The bones constantly breaking make him under 5 feet, with a hump. But his personality and determination is so great, the books are sad and funny and sometimes romantic. Mirror Dance is about a clone brother Mark who was born normal but had surgery after surgery to make himself look like his brother who he's supposed to eventually kill and replace. Resentment galore.

namericanwordcat | 242 comments I don't have a chubby hero (they are so hard to find) but I do have one that is bald and shorter than the heroine that I adored.

A Klue (fromthesouth) | 19 comments I've been trying to remember the name of a great romantic read you would likely love where the hero was described as H-U-G-E. He was pretty much a handsome loner who worked hard during the day (construction??) then went to the same sports bar at night to watch SportsCentral TV and drink a beer or two. The heroine went to the bar one night and was awestruck with not just his rugged looks but his massive size...and how even his barstool would creak. He came to her aid (maybe a bad date or someone was hitting on her) and that's how they struck up a conversation/relationship. He was even somewhat embarrassed for having love handles. I think the bookcover showed a half pic of a man holding a beer bottle. Anyone out there have any idea the name of this book that featured this good guy chubby hero? It was the first time I read a book featuring a hero who wasn't sporting 6 pack abs.

I posted on GRs "What's the Name of that Book?"...Here's a longer description/more details I vaguely remember...

Vintage (vintagesedona) Making Over Maris.

The hero starts out a mess but transforms himself in various ways. It's sweet and funny.
