Nicole D. (thereadingrebel) | 1278 comments I was just think about a few heroes and heroines that have driven me crazy. Not just characters you don't like the main characters only. Here are mine:

Heroines:
Emma Woodhouse form Emma by Jane Austen
Cleone form Powder And Patch by Georgette Heyer

Heroes:
Mr.Knightley form Emma by Jane Austen
Adam Deveril form A Civil Contract by Georgette Heyer
Viscount Sherington aka Sherry Friday's Child by Georgette Heyer

What are some heroes and heroines you just couldn't like.

Dislike Emma and Knightley? Haha.

Um... I will think!

message 3: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (chibilee02) Wow...it's very rare for me to come across main characters that I don't like. The only one that I truly don't like is Chelsea from Dark Wolf Rising (Bloodrunners, #4) by Rhyannon Byrd . She just got on my nerves. She made it difficult for me to read the book and actually made me question why the hero is in love with her.

Evelynn (authorgirlev) | 450 comments Emma Woodhouse did drive me a little nuts....

Anna (SylviaGrant) | 232 comments Bella Swann and Edward Cullen. :P

Yes! I agree actually!

Evelynn (authorgirlev) | 450 comments Me too! Twilight, bleh.

message 8: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (chibilee02) I actually didn't have a problem with Bella and Edward as characters per se. It's more of the actor and actress themselves that was more of a problem for me. I just think Stewart and Pattinson ruined them, especially Stewart.

I forget his name but the hero from Cotillion by Georgette Heyer was kind of annoying for me. he was sweet and not awful, but he wasn't very hero like and was really indecisive and complained a bit too much. :P I cant really think of any other but I know there are more.... will be thinking...

I know how that is.Knightley for Emma just isn't mine either but a lot of people seem to like him.

message 14: by Betty (new)

Betty I really disliked the heroine of Northanger Abbey So stupid and childish!

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
Really? Did not you think she matured through the story?

message 16: by Nicole D. (new)

Nicole D. (thereadingrebel) | 1278 comments I forgot Lady Susan form Lady Susan by Jane Austen she one of the most horrid main characters ever

message 17: by Betty (new)

Betty Soph wrote: "Really? Did not you think she matured through the story?"

I think she realized her mistakes,(only when she was found out by the guy she thinks she loves) but, do I think she would make them again? Probably. I don't know. I just don't like people in books that aren't logical. The leading male role in the book was pretty much just as silly for picking her. I thought, "Birds of a feather flock together!" LOL! Maybe I was just in a "mood" when I read it, but I thought that it was not up to Jane Austen's standard.

Oh :( I enjoyed it quite a lot.
I see a little bit where you come from but, don't completely agree! But, fair enough, each to their own opinion! :)

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
Which is your favourite?

message 23: by Betty (new)

Betty That's a hard question! I'm not sure. I really enjoyed reading Mansfield Park, because I had never seen a movie about it at the time and it was nice to not know what was going to happen and how it would end! I had never seen Northanger Abbey either. I like Persuasion, and I really enjoyed Sense and Sensibility because there was so much more to the story than had been in the Emma Thomson/Kate Winslett version. Pride and Prejudice (1995) I had watched alot, so the book was a little bit like reading the movie script. I think I liked reading Mansfield Park the best, but I like watching the newest Emma BBC, the best! :)

message 24: by Sophie, The Romantic Moderator :) (new)

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
Mansfield Park is my least favourite book. I agree about the Emma version! And Persuasion is great. I love pride and prejudice!

Rachel (hopeless-wanderer) Darcy's alright. He's a good character, but I don't understand why everyone (excluding Ysa) LOVES him

Yeah. I love being unique. Just about everyone else adores Darcy. It's crazy, if you don't mind my saying so."

Well unique? Okay I hate Harry potter the hunger games and twilight. I'm not a cliche person

I love pride and prejudice even though Darcy isn't my FAVORITE Austen hero. everyone is permitted their own opinion, ladies, no heated discussion, please. ;) lol even though I have a feeling *most* of this is sarcastic.

lol yea we're pretty easy going here. we have other members who are not JA fans. ;)

message 48: by Betty (new)

Betty I am much more of an Elizabeth Gaskell fan than J.A. I also love E.D.E.N. Southworth 's novels. I like a little more suspense, but I enjoy J.A. too!

message 49: by Caity, that crazy moderator (new)

Caity | 4434 comments Mod
Yea, I LOVE Elizabeth Gaskell just as much if not more than JA. I need to read more of Southworth's work.
