I nominate Nabokov's short story collection, which I heard was terrific. My well-read GR friends love them.

2. 'Sin' - Zakhar Prilepin
3. 'Medea and her children' - Lyudmila Ulitskaya
I nominate " How the steel was tempered" by Nikolai Ostrovsky.
Cancer Ward, something by Nabokov or Oblomov by Ivan Goncharov.
Oblomov by Gontcharov or anything by Gontcharov or Scarlet Sails by Alexander Green. Stories by Nabokov sound interesting too. Prince Serebryanny by Tolstoy (not Leo Tolstoy).

I meant to say "Prince Serebryanni" by Alexey Konstantinovich Tolstoy. I do not know if there is a translation into English.
I would again propose Strugatsky brothers, Roadside Picnic. Or maybe this is too contemporary and would fit better in another poll?

It's good that you asked. Contemporary books can also be included here, if one gets selected, we are just going to read it under contemporary-reads, that's all.
I'm fine with any of the choices so far...I'll vote for the book with less pages. :D
