Was just thinking we could post here if we come across any great free or cheap ebooks?

I get the Kindle Daily Deal email and have found the quality of the offers has gone way down lately, sadly.

message 2: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) Good idea Lisa.

I haven't bought a daily deal in ages, but keep looking every day in the hope they come up with a good one. Disappointing so far.

Here are a couple of links:

message 5: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) This is a link to UK Amazon's 20 books for £2.00.

message 6: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 85 comments I think that there has been a change to the number of free books that can be offered which is probably why the choice is not as good as it used to be. The thing I like most about the freebies, other than the fact they are free, is that I have discovered some great new authors and tried different genres.

message 7: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) Today's UK Kindle daily deal is The Shining. Not my cup of tea, but it might appeal to one of you :D

Great idea Lisa.

I got Sacred Hearts the other day which I thought was quite bargainous at £1.49.

Daily Deals have indeed gone South! Can't remember the last one I bought. On the first of every month, Amazon do a new batch of 100 books below £2.99. That sometimes bears fruit, though not much this month from memory.

Those days of the 20p book sales were just fantastic. Long gone, unfortunately it seems.

Good idea - I'll happily post any deals I come across.

Get on the bookbub.com acct. They send you free downloads everyday from Amazon that are quite good.

Tara Mayall | 5 comments I've got some great epub books at smashwords there are some early books by published authors and lots from unpublished ones. also look at whsmiths they have lots of free ebooks too.

message 12: by Jean (new)

Jean Carlton I use the public libraries alot. of course you don't own them. Also free books freon Gutenberg.com

message 13: by Lauren (new)

Lauren If anyone uses iBooks on any of their apple devices, there is a decent selection of books under $4.00 including a personal favorite "The Art of Racing in the Rain" for $1.99!

UK Kindle DD includes Elizabeth Haynes Human Remains today for thriller fans. Her first, Into the Darkest Corner, was a decent, if nasty, read.

message 15: by Susan (new)

Susan (suze0501) | 190 comments Thanks for this everyone. The only problem is that my 'to read' bookshelf is starting to groan under the virtual weight!!

message 16: by Agata (new)

Agata Wightman On kindle daily deal today "Still Alice" by Lisa Genova. Looks interesting (about a woman discovering she has early onset Alzheimer).

I have this one on my kindle, from the last time Amazon dropped the price! Still haven't read it though. I have heard Lisa Genova talking about her books in an interview with Richard & Judy some time ago - will see if there's a link anywhere to that. The other one I have is Left Neglected which should also be a good read.

message 18: by Elizabeth (last edited Jul 26, 2013 01:41AM) (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) I hope this link works - it's the link the the UK Amazon kindle summer sale

There's some really good books on here. Trying very hard not to buy anything but it is very tempting!

I read Still Alice, I really enjoyed it so do recommend it.

message 20: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Thanks for this link, Elizabeth. Have spent a happy afternoon hour browsing, and picked up some bargains :)

message 21: by Agata (new)

Agata Wightman Well I've just bought "Watch Over Me" by Daniela Sacerdoti from kindle store for 30p, stumbled upon it when I was trying to find an "S" for the A-Z challenge :-) Don't know if it will be any good, but for that price I couldn't just leave it!

Just came on to tell everyone I'd found The Perks of Being a Wallflower for £1.99 and saw the post about the summer sale!

Eeek, thanks Elizabeth - I think... *Breaks bank*

Elizabeth (merelyreading) Paul wrote: "Elizabeth wrote: "I hope this link works - it's the link the the UK Amazon kindle summer sale ..."

I bought two books this morning!

A Life of Contrasts: An Autobiography by Diana Mitford Mosley

and The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin

I will NOT be looking at the summer sale page again!!!!

message 25: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Are you sure Elizabeth? I bought 4 of Ira Levin's books in the sale. Go on have a look and see what they might be!! LOL

Really pleased that you put it up though as I'm gradually replacing my actual books with ebooks as my purse permits. Then at least we can stop falling over the things....

message 26: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) Well ... I might look, but I mustn't buy any more! I have quite a library of books now.

I had already read a couple of the Ira Levin books (though I thoroughly enjoyed them and definitely recommend them!)

message 28: by Agata (new)

Agata Wightman I bought two books in the summer sale today. Do they add more books as the sale goes on, or is the current selection it? Don't know if I should keep checking it from time to time or would that be a waste of time.

message 29: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Yes, I'd like to know this too.

message 30: by Jo (new)

I picked up:
Life! Death! Prizes! by Stephen May
The Best of Our Spies by Alex Girlis
Freeing Grace by Charity Norman
And
Apple Tree Yard by Louise Doughty

I already have two Ira Levins but I may buy two more!

I got Watch Over Me last year, it's a good read.

And Wolf Hall and May We Be Forgiven and a Game of Thrones..... All at 99p! There are more but I am trying (badly) to resist.

message 33: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Jo - are these all from the link Elizabeth provided? I can't find "Wolf Hall"! :(

message 34: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
Jean - I haven't tried Elizabeth's link, but yesterday/today, the price dropped on all these books - try the Amazon homepage and search that way perhaps?

Possibly not listed under the Summer Sale specifically but I get emails about price drops and they all worked when I purchased. I use .

message 35: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Jo - that's brilliant link, thank you so much! I've just bought Wolf Hall (which I have already but as it's a long book in Large Print it's very unwieldy.)

Now I'm now going back to look for more. (Oh dear...)

message 36: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) I've bought 2 more!! Tried to restrain myself but when I saw 2 Jean M. Auels for £1.70 each I couldn't resist. I've wanted this "Earth's Children" series for ages!
Must stop now though 'til next month. It isn't long is it...? LOL

Oh, and today, the deal of the day IS worth having, Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea is an absolute bargain at 99p. Our book club read it last year and it is the book we keep talking about time and time again.....

I read it last year. Completely agree with you Jo - it is worth having. I found it absolutely fascinating, and heartbreakingly sad in places.

message 39: by Agata (new)

Agata Wightman I've just bought "Nothing to Envy", thank you for recommending it, and if you could all stop posting about kindle bargains now, so I don't spend any more money, that would be smashing, ta! ;-)

message 40: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 85 comments I need to stop getting books for my Kindle now. I just looked at "Nothing to Envy" on ereader and thought that it looked really good. Went to Amazon to buy it and apparently I did buy it in 2011!!

message 41: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) Your kindle sounds like mine! I've gone to buy a book before only for Amazon to tell me I've already got it :D

message 42: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 85 comments Too many times Elizabeth lol. I have got 3 different versions of the same book on mine. Luckily they were all free.

Elizabeth (merelyreading) The Etymologicon by Mark Forsyth is one of the UK Kindle daily deals today. If you haven't read it, it is a bargain not to be missed if you love obscure words combined with lots of humour. It's superb.

message 46: by Agata (new)

Agata Wightman I'm glad you say that, Elizabeth, cause I've just bought it!

Do you have a link to these Daily Deals? I poked around a little yesterday and somehow couldn't find it...
