10.8. Fall Back.

On November 3, we set the clocks back an hour in most of the United States. Go back in time, and read a novel with the genre historical fiction or history on its main page or a nonfiction book with the genre history on its main page. The book you read must be set in/about a time period before you were born.

REQUIRED: You don't have to tell us your age ;), but please explain briefly how your book fits the task requirement..

Once again, I am going on vacation right after posting tasks - hmmm.............I hate to think my life is so tied to the SRC! I should have internet access to respond to questions, but if I'm a little slow, please be patient.

Foxy Grandma (foxygrandma) | 1194 comments The Dressmaker is a historical fiction, but it just has history as a top genre. Will this still work?

Yes. I will amend the task to allow historical fiction or history to work.

Yeah, I don't think we'll challenge you on that, LOL! And, really, I figure that if anyone uses a book that took place >100 years ago, I'm sure not going to ask them to prove that it's before they were born!

Megan Anderson (ms_anderson) | 1464 comments Three Rivers Rising: A Novel of the Johnstown Flood

Just wanna get this approved :D It's definitely set before I was born (almost 100yrs, but not quite), and historical fiction is actually on the main page this time >_>

as long as it's actually on the main page, it's fine.

Kirsty | 85 comments Hi, For this task I want to read Call the Midwife by Jennifer Worth which is set in the 1950's (I was born in 1990 so is from a time period before i was born). I have the trilogy edition of this book; Tales from a Midwife: True Stories of the East End in the 1950s. Call the Midwife is the first book. This is the single edition Call The Midwife. The single does has History as a genre on it's main page but the trilogy edition doesnt. Can I use this book? Thanks

Sure. You'll want to link to the single edition as well, for page purposes and such - just point out in your post that the genre is listed with the single book and that it was approved here.

sounds interesting, too - we went on a walking tour of London's East End last year, and it has a fascinating history!

Sure.

I just wish they'd explain what they're doing with all this.

message 16: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8862 comments my understanding is that they "think" the genre box is redundant because you can "see" how ppl shelve the book...aka, they want you to scroll through everyone who has shelved it to see what they shelved it as...or that was my understanding from the feedback thread

Yes, that's what they said, but that doesn't really make any sense - the genre box only disappeared from some books, and then it came back for some of those books, then disappeared again.

message 18: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8862 comments yeah...i dunno...its weird...unless its a caching thing...or they started to get rid of them, then we complained, so they didn't finish running the program to delete them...who knows...they seem to be very good at half-assing stuff at times

Shawn | 297 comments Could I get Jackie After O One Remarkable Year When Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Defied Expectations and Rediscovered Her Dreams by Tina Cassidy approved?

It is nonfiction and currently has history on its main page (one vote).

Thank you!

It's fine for genre. Don't know how old you are, but keep in mind that it has to be set at a time before you were born.

Ann A (readerann) | 1076 comments Can I get approval for this book?

Angle of Repose

It's about a man who is writing his grandmother's history, and the story moves back and forth from past to present. I would say well over half the book takes place in the late 1800's during his grandmother's young to middle-aged years. (And historical fiction is the first genre on the main page.)
