All I can remember about this book was that the characters went to a candy store and bought chocolate candy shaped like babies. I know it sounds crazy, but it's really bugging me. This is probably a middle grades/kids book that I would have read in the mid-1980s.

was this an American book or a book from the U.K.?

I think there might be a scene like that in Caddie Woodlawn.

This happens in All of a Kind Family by Sydney Taylor.
