I think it's nice to really slow down and enjoy the book. I think I've gotten into a bad habit where I kind of feel like I'm rushing with whatever I'm reading.

I would do that too then I get really disappointed if the book does end up into a movie and none of the characters are like what I imagine them to be.

You read 276 words per minute.
That makes you 10% faster than the national average.
And I got the three questions right! And I'm not mothertongue!!!

As for Laura, not being a mothertongue English I am quite happy!

That makes you 4% slower than the national average.
It doesn't matter, I like to read slowly and to enjoy every single word above all in books that have a wonderful prose or deep concepts.
Me too, the three questions right and my native language is Italian :D

I'm impressed Jenny. If I were to read anything in another language, and I do occasionally tackle a few chapters of something in French......it would probably be about 100 words a minute at best.

551 words per minute. I think this would be about right... It felt quite leisurely.

Tweedledum, hand me some Dickens and I'll be reading at 50 words per minute! ;) I think it also very much depends on the kind of text I am tackeling.

I think I would be the same.

Definitely.

That was not my intention when I posted this thread. I just thought some people would like to know what their speed is. But I do agree with you, books should be enjoyed not rushed through.

I sometimes wish I could read faster, I scored about 400 a minute with 3 questions correct. If I could read faster I could read more books in the short amount of time I have to read!
For me it definitely depends on the book/author/style. If I hate a book it will also take much longer

That wouldn't be ME or CFS as I would call it, would it? You don't need to answer if you don't want to but my granny is the same way. I have ME but luckily it's not bad, I just get ill if I'm on the go for about ten hours or more without a proper rest break.

I like to read as fast as I speak too - you're not alone. :) I like having that rhythm, and it immerses me more in the story and the experience.
Nice to see that I've improved.
You read 1,001 words per minute.
That makes you 300% faster than the national average.

I think that's really good, especially if Italian is not your mother tongue, I have been trying to teach myself French and I know my reading speed is so much slower as I'm translating in head.
