This is PART of a rant review I wrote on THE ELITE:

Does there really have to be a love triangle here? We all know that America is going to come to her senses and choose Maxon. If America isn't with Maxon and if they don't make changes to Illéa, it would totally ruin everything that this series is building towards and I will not view this series the same way. Despite all of my irritations with this book, I can't bare to knock a star off the rating because I am in love with this series, or the idea and premise of this series. America get your head together and get your priorities straight!

I hate that I keep thinking 'I hope America will choose Maxon' because Maxon is supposed to be the one choosing America! It's so frustrating! This series did not need To have a love triangle! 35 girls competing for one guy and one crown... this book would have been complicated enough without Aspen.

Seriously, America needs to choose ONE. I hope it's Maxon.

It's a little annoying how this series has become America's mini selection.

Is it me, or is it NOT America? On the cover of the selection and The Elite, she has bluish greenish eyes. And in The One, she has brown eyes.

It's America. She's the only red head.

It's the same girl on all of the pics.

Yeah, I hate it when a series has a different model on every cover, but it's all supposed to be the same girl, like Vampire Academy.

This is one of those series where the final book will really shape how I view the whole story. I'm hoping Cass will really bring it with The One. I hope it's longer than The Elite too because that book seriously took me less than a day to read.

I'm hoping America ends up with Maxon, obviously. I also think Aspen might get with Lucy, it seemed like The Elite was hinting that she had a crush on Aspen. So I think that could happen.

I agree too Hannah. I'm hoping this book resolves everything. This book can make or break the series.

Even if The One lives up to my expectations I think I'll always feel like the series could have been better. I think the selection should have been wrapped up in one book (MAYBE two) but I think it should be resolved by book 3.

I want to see (assuming Maxon & America are endgame) how they rule and change Illea. I want to know more about the rebels. I think the world she created is pretty awesome and I wish we got to see more of the political/war aspects instead of just love triangle this, mean girls that.

I at least wish the series would be longer...

Yeah, there was so much more that she could have done with this series, it could've been seriously epic. I mean, I still really enjoyed it, it was a nice easy read, but I wasn't expecting it to be an easy read. I wasn't expecting it to have so much inconsequential drama.

Yeah the selection series could have been one normal sized book.

I think so, too. I mean, this IS about a prince selecting one of 35 girls. While America dumping him in the end and chosing Aspen would be an interesting twist, I just don't see it coming, especially after she's finally made her mind up to fight for Maxon at the end of Elite.

Can't wait for May 2014!

I guess it would be unexpected, but I also think it would kind of make the whole series pointless if she just went back to her old life with Aspen. yea, they'd be higher in the caste system (assuming they didn't get caught) but I think America's journey is largely about her realizing that she can be a Princess, that she has the potential inside of her to really make changes in the country, and that she shouldn't run away from real love just because she's scared of that responsibility.

that's why I think so much is resting on the ending, it could make or break the series and America's whole arc as a character.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you just said.

Let's hope she does end up with Maxon, do you think he suspects anything? Because he did look funny at the button, he might as well put two and two together...

I think Maxon will find out about her and Aspen one way or another, it'll just be one more hurdle for them to get through at the end, but I think he'll forgive her and understand. I think him and America just need to lay everything out in the open and be totally honest with each other, that's the only way they can really move forward together (really America needs to be honest because Maxon has already bared his soul to her pretty much).

Although this is another reason why I think this series should be longer, that kind of conflict shouldn't be resolved in a book that will most likely be less than 400 pages.

I wished it was longer too, I can't imagine how she will resolve the rebels in one book, and in the same time their relationship between them, the choice, Aspen's opinion in the matter- because I don't think he will go without a fight, neither will Celeste, Also we have Maxon's horrible father and the truth about the casts and how they got created. Those are a lot of things to deal properly in only one book!

Yea exactly. We know little to nothing about the rebels. Basically all that changed in The Elite was that America seems to have made up her mind at the end that she wants Maxon and is willing to fight for him.

I think The One is going to feel really rushed judging by the sheer amount of things that need to be addressed and resolved. I'm really just hoping for a good ending, even if it's somewhat open ended.

That's a good point. I agree with the stuff about the rebels, there's obviously something up with them beyond just being rebels, and that was the only thing we learned about them in The Elite.

I feel like this whole series is just a scam to take our money. It's a cute concept that was poorly written and has many flaws. AND it's really expensive and short (page length). The more I think about it, the more annoyed and irritated I get.

I feel you. Like really, what happened in The Elite that even matters? I bought this (beautiful) hardcover book for like $20 and it took me less than a day to read, nothing actually happened, and I feel like the last book is going to ultimately leave us unsatisfied and with a ton of unanswered questions.

I'm still going to be glad I read it, I enjoy the series, I love Maxon as a character, I like America most of the time, I just wish this whole story had been executed better. I don't like feeling like I'm being taken advantage of as a ploy to make more money. We all know The Selection and The Elite could have been one book, I'm honestly surprised they're not extending the series to 6 books just to keep dragging it out.

I agree with both of you, The ELite didn't have a reason to exist at all. She wasted a whole book and now in The one she won't have enough space to cover our questions... I hate to be taken advantage of. It's like mortal instruments all over again. She should has finished in the third book, but she wrote another three just for the money...

Yea but at least there was closure in City of Glass, like the series could have ended at 3 books and it would have been okay. I'm not saying the money had nothing to do with it, but I also think Cassie just genuinely enjoys writing in the Shadowhunter world. I was disappointed with CoFA though, but CoLS was way better.

I agree with you, I thought mortal should have ended in CoG, because the other two weren't as good as the first, especially the CoFA.I don't know if she likes to write about shadowhunters, but 12 books plus the extra with Magnus are a lot of books. That is another ending I am anxious about!

I think that all YA authors are starting to produce novellas just so they can make more money. Write 50 ebook pages and charge $1.99. Cassie Clare made TEN which she released once a month and cost $2.99. So not worth it... I like CoLS better than CoA but CoFA was my least favorite. As much as I love Simon, there was just too much of him.

No, I don't like her that much. The girl from GoT doesn't have a spine like America, she has this sleepy look in her face like she is bored all the time. They are better redheads out there :D

That's true, but she just looks just like how I pictured America :P I meant more physical appearance, not personality.

I know :( Same thing happened to the Delirium pilot, Never got picked up. I wish there was some way for us to watch the episodes anyway, just to see what it was like.

I'd rather have nothing than have them butcher the best character in the series and the whole storyline. I feel like on TV it always has to be about the girl getting the bad boy, so they turned Maxon into a jerk.

Okay, I just googled "The Selection script" and I clicked the first link. Um... it started off with Maxon having sex with Lucy... Please tell me that wasn't the actual script...

uhg it might be, I remember I just skimmed through it and realized they turned Maxon into a completely different person and then stopped because I was so angry.

they did the same thing with Delirium, they turned Julian into some scumbag pervert who spied on girls through windows. I know I'm probably the only one but Julian was my favorite character in the series and I would have hated to see them slaughter that on a TV show.

Ugh, now I'm glad these shows didn't make it. How dare they make Julian a perv and Maxon a manwhore???!!! But I don't think that Selection script I read was legit, seemed too amateur with the writing. It felt like reading bad fanfiction. :P

all the leaks of the scripts have probably been taken down by now, when I read them it was like right after the pilots got rejected so they were making their way around tumblr. trust me you're better off not reading them.

they changed Delirium a lot just plot wise too. but I was a fan of Gregg Sulkin as Julian so I'm sad I'll never see him play the real Julian, not creepy stalker Julian who gets with Hana for some reason.

oh novellas are such a scam, especially because they'll release them in between books and then release all the novellas in physical form, so you're kind of tricked into buying them on your kindle/ipad and then when the series is over you want to buy the physical copy too.

Yeah, I never really buy those novella things, unless someone recommends one to me. In fact, the only one I have is Dream Dark, from the Beautiful Creatures series.

THEY PUT JULIAN WITH HANA???!!! NO WAY!!! Wow, but I guess it was a possibility, considering how open Requiem ended, especially on Hana's end. I just hate when best friends share boyfriends.

I get them sometimes, like some of them are actually amazing and long and important (like Destroy Me from the Shatter Me series or In Time from the Darkest Minds series) but usually you can do without them, they're so short most of the time anyway.

yea they made it so that Julian had known Lena and Hana like their whole lives and he was Hana's neighbor and would like watch her change and stuff through her bedroom window. Everything else was the same with his dad and all that, it was just that he lived in Portland from the beginning rather than Lena meeting him in New York.

Gosh I'm scared for this book... I hope Cass finishes the series strong!
