Kaitlin (kait-k) | 537 comments @Erika - Great question. My suggestion would be that we choose a book with a word in the title that would've been an acceptable spell-out word. So if you choose the May spell-it-out, pick a book with a word in the title that reminds you of May. For the August spell-it-out, pick a book with a word in the title that reminds you of summer.

Kara, please jump in if you're not happy with that solution. Thanks!

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Completed #4 (new part of character's life) from January New Beginnings Challenge - The Colonel's Lady by Laura Frantz. Main character leaves behind her life in Virginia and goes to the wilds of Kentucky territory during the American revolutionary war. Sweet, lighthearted book with some interesting historical references. Christian perspective was present but not shoved into the reader's face on every page. Worth reading! 3.5 stars

message 18: by Laura Jane (new)

Laura Jane (loopylulaura) | 175 comments For the spell-it-out challenges, I've simply chosen to find books with either a word in the title or author's name starting with a 'M' for May and an 'A' for August.

Megan, I updated you.

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Completed #2 (Macarthur Genius Grants) from March Awards Cover Hunt - Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card. Smartest kid ever, Bean, is portrayed on the cover. Good counterpoint to Ender's Game, so glad that I read this one second in the series! Not sure if this is true to the movie coming out in a few weeks, but the author mentioned at the end of the audiobook that the screenplay for the movie combines both Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. More excited than ever to see the film now! 4.5 stars

I was just going to choose (short) words to spell out that would fit the challenge as it was originally written. I know that could put me over 18 books for the challenge, but is that ok?

Hi Barb! To me, challenges are just about reading a lot and having fun, so your interpretation of the spell-it-out is fine with me!

If you are anything like me Pat, you are going to love challenges. I have a challenge problem. One of my friends wanted to have a challenge intervention in the summer because I had so many on the go.

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Completed #4 (people fighting against government) from February Mini Civil Rights Challenge - The Almond Tree by Michelle Corasanti. Each member of the Palestinian family fights in their own ways against the injustice of the Israeli government. While I appreciate the history and heartfelt story, the characters were a bit wooden and the narrative had a few gaps. Worth reading! 3.5 stars
