Meredith Gentry, Princess of the high court of Faerie, is posing as a human in Los Angeles, living as a P.I. specializing in supernatural crime. But now the Queen’s assassin has been dispatched to fetch her back–whether she likes it or not. Suddenly Meredith finds herself a pawn in her dreaded aunt’s plans. The job that awaits her: enjoy the constant company of the most beautiful immortal men in the world. The reward: the crown–and the opportunity to continue to live. The penalty for failure: death.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments I don't like this series as much as the author's Anita Blake one. I feel like she wrote this because she wanted to write sex, but at the time felt like she couldn't with Anita. From the start Merry does what Anita is all about now.

Ronatha Hall (roangl27) | 55 comments I did like Anita better at first. But both characters grow so much throughout the series it's hard to choose now. I actually have to reread this book before I comment on any more.

Bungluna | 32 comments I avoided this book for a long time but finally caved. I liked the 'otherness' of Merry and the fae. Too often, writes say the characters are alien or different but do not show them acting this way. The idea of the life of a people being tied to their rulers was also intriguing for me. I didn't like the way sex was set up as a form of currency though.

Alisa I have my doubts about this one. I'm in the camp that hates Anita Blake so I've never given this series a try. I recently found them all at a dollar bookstore so I went ahead and picked them up. I'll be trying this book this month.

I'm interested to see what you think due to your thoughts going in.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Anita is annoying but I like the side characters.

Merry is a whore sorry there is nothing sexy about opening your legs for just anyone. I hate when she goes on for chapters about one sex act...geez I get it already. Then ...not to be vulgar but what is up with she is so tight when she just ran a train??

The sad thing is the story does have a decent story line but the sex just gets in the way.

I shouldn't laugh at your comments, but I am as they are true. lol

There is going to be a new book in this series next year. It has been so long since the last one came out it will be hard to remember, but these books aren't worth a re-read.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments How many books are there in this series I remember thinking she was bringing it to an end only to have another one re-released a few months later.

Bungluna | 32 comments This series was supposed to have an end. "Swallowing Darkness" concluded the original arc, or so I believe, but the author came out with another book to explore what's going on afterward. LKH is good at coming up with intriguing story lines, but not so good at concluding them.

Emily (grad-student-mama) | 1 comments I agree the sex is intense, to the point where I consider this series to be erotica more than anything else. But I do really like the fae world and the descriptions are vivid and I'm a sucker for all the Celtic/fae mythology. I do re-read these books and I am looking forward to the new one, but I tend to skip the sex scenes so it goes pretty quickly. In comparison to the Anita Blake series, what I like about the character of merry gentry is that she is defined by her omnivore sexuality from the beginning (for better or worse) whereas with Anita Blake it just felt like whiplash, super conservative to poly amorous, and I couldn't keep reading because I didn't understand the character anymore.
