I need some help to find a book that is based in a small town. If anyone could give me a website to look at books based in small towns that would be great. Also recommendations of your own would be great. I was going to read At Home in Mitford but I waited too long and the library wants their book back.

The Fannie Flagg books are generally pretty good small-town books.

A Thousand Acres A Novel
I read this years and years ago, but I remember I enjoyed it and it was far from my usual read, so maybe that's why I remember enjoying it.

Nineteen Minutes.. that's what I'm using for that challenge.

Empire Falls was a good fast read. It takes place in a depressed New England mill town.

Main Street by Sinclaire Lewis, Saulk Center, Minnesota. (Via my husband John's recommendation)

Try Scotch River by Linda Little

The Stone Angel by Margaret Laurence - about an older woman reflecting back on her life in a small prairie town. Some say it's depressing but I enjoyed it...

Nicholas Sparks frequently writes about small towns, but only read them if you like romantic-type books. I'm using True Believer by Nicholas Sparks for the challenge.

Stone Angel is a wonderful book.

Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani is set in a small town in the Appalachian Mountains. I used to live very close to there, and I can tell you, it is VERY rural/small towny.

If you like classics of the Jane Austen variety, I think you would probably enjoy Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell. Sharp and witty, its a look at the inhabitants of Cranford.

If you like mysteries, Starvation Lake A Mystery by Bryan Gruley is a good one set in a small town.

Welcome to Temptation is another one if you like chick lit romance.

Nearly everything by Garrison Keillor.

The Miss Julia Series by Ann Ross is excellent.
