Just to be clear this isn't to spark any sorts of conflicts or debates or resentments (or self promotion), but I was just curious to see if writers actually read other writer's blogs?

I always stay away from writing advice blogs, not because I think i'm too good or anything like that, but because I have my own writing advice blog for am writers and I don't want to be influenced by what others say when I give my advice. I love, however, reading like personal blogs about an authors journey and stuff. I'm all about that haha. I love to support my fellow writers, but I also have to remind myself not to be too influenced by what they write as well.

So what do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? What are your thoughts/opinions about this matter?

I often read other writer's blogs. I'm interested in the different ways that people write, and sometimes they give good advice that I hadn't thought about before.

I do read blogs, but am very picky about who's I read. Basic advice is fine, but I'm always looking for a little bit more than regurgitated articles and bland how-to stuff. Same goes for just about any blogs I read, really. I'm also pretty bad about actually "following" certain blogs. I'd much rather just follow on Facebook or Twitter, hoping to catch some of the more interesting bits.

Sure, I read several, though not religiously. It's interesting to see how other writers like to do the craft. I tend to lean toward sci-fi, fantasy, horror. Nothing against poetry or romance at all, just aren't my thing.

I'm like Dawn. I will read here and there when I find an article that grabs my interest, but I don't follow any one blog. There are only two blogs that I actually read with any regularity. One of them is mostly about news in writing. The other gives tips on self publishing which I know next to nothing about, and am trying to learn as much as possible. Neither blog posts that often, but their posts are almost always filled with interesting and helpful information.

This sounds like another one of those "rock and a hard place dilemmas." As authors we must do everything we can to make ourselves "visible" on the Internet through social networking. Writing articles, creative writing advice or otherwise is on recommended way, but I still struggle how to best promote published works. There is so much to do, how does everyone find the time to social network and promote when they are trying to write in addition? For me, I will usually read articles if they really spark my interest, but with most here, I don't really follow any particular author blog.

Yeah, I'm also not at all interested in writing advice, and I don't follow any particular blogs, but I'll gladly read articles about writers' experiences in developing stories, finishing their projects, and dealing with the publishing process or marketing. Usually I'll come across these things through Twitter, or maybe a Google search when I'm trying to sort out some sort of production issue.

There are a lot of nice writers' blogs, especially - yet not exclusively - by our Twitterling group.
Some are inspiring as they make me consider stuff from a different angle. Others provide fun stuff - sometimes I just need a good laugh to get back on track. :)

I do actually. But I tend to steer clear of 'this is how to do something correctly' articles trying to tell someone how to write is like trying to tell someone how to breathe. I like to hear about other people's processes and read about encouragement. That's what I try to write too.

I tend to read agent/editor blogs more than writer blogs. They usually have good tips concerning the craft of writing. I love Mary Kole's blog - Kidlit.com

I do when I can, for a variety of reasons. I may want to support the particular author because they are a friend or I like their work, I may see the link posted and think the article sounds interesting, and I may even want to see what advice they have to give. (Although I pick and choose what advice I feel like taking when it comes to writing, I am always on the hunt for advice on how to get the word out on my books, because I appear to be terrible at it lol)

Very interesting. You all bring up such good points. I always feel so bad for not reading some blogs because they give advice when I really want to support an author, but its also very true that there is no 'one true way' to write. Haha. To each their own ^.^

I subscribed to many blogs. Do I read them when I receive a notice? Sometimes, it depends on the subject. Mostly I read when they don't talk about how the only good way to do things is theirs. I like to compare, sure, but I will most likely read a blog if they talk about something else interesting, such as how they feel about their writings for example.

I rarely read writing blogs. They usually just say things I've already heard or learned in one of my creative writing classes. If I'm looking for advice, I listen to the "writing excuses" podcast with Brandon Sanderson.
