Duration: January 1 - March 31, 2014

Thank you to Lilac for this lovely idea! Make a rainbow out of the book covers. You can use as few as four books (red, yellow, green, blue) or as many as you like as long as the final result is a rainbow of books.

Example:

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes The Odyssey by Homer Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (Flavia de Luce, #1) by Alan Bradley Shift Omnibus Edition (Silo, #2) (Wool, #6-8) by Hugh Howey The Titan's Curse (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #3) by Rick Riordan

-----

Brian will be our leader for this challenge. Thank you, Brian!

Lilac is such a lovely name and color that I've decided to try and look for a book with a lilac cover to be one book out of my goal for a 8 book rainbow. Here are some shades of lilac:

I'll record the participants here in this post and add newcomers and update everyone's goals as they get closer to putting together their rainbows for the first three months of 2014. I'm really excited to see what you guys read and what your book covers look like posted together! Please just ask for help if you don't know how to post book covers - it's very simple (just like adding book title link, but scroll to bottom of bar and click cover link instead).

Also, please bear (hehe) in mind that in order to make a pretty rainbow, there's a minimum requirement of 4 books, and they must be 4 different colors.

Wrong. A tricolor rainbow does not a rainbow make...

Perfect!

Alert me if I somehow miss your name or forget to update your goal - I'll check in as often as I can over the next few months and will repost the list :]

P.S.
The 7 main ("visible") colors of a rainbow are the following (in this order):

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet. By no means do you have to use every color from ROYGBIV nor do you have to put them in any particular order but a helpful reference for those of you wanting to make your bookcover images look like a real rainbow :]

My promotion at work has me driving a couple hours a night, so extra time to add more books in audio format. Going to listen to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Brave New World this month.

Jaclyn I'm going to TRY for 7! I haven't even looked at my shelves yet!

message 14: by Brian (last edited Dec 25, 2013 08:38PM) (new)

Brian (brianfinn) | 638 comments @Brianna Okay awesome! Updated your goal.

@Jaclyn Added you for 7!

To you both - you have 3 whole months to accomplish these, and any book that you start say, now - but happen to finish in January, would count *wink wink*.

If at any point anyone wants to lower their number as the first quarter of the year stretches on and it feels like there's no way you'll be able to reach your goal, go ahead and let me know if you'd like to lower your goal. None of us can predict how busy we will be and sometimes we get busier than we anticipate, as a lot can happen in 3 months.

Emphasizing again that challenges are fun and for the ones I'll lead, I want you all to try your best! But I also want you to be happy and reach your goal. There's no shame at all if you want to switch - just let me know if at any point you'd like to increase or decrease your goal for any reason at all (or no reason).

After all, this challenge is an accepting and friendly place! Because it's about colors and rainbows and lilacs and care bears. And ponies

and also Disney princesses

And to the guys in our group, this challenge is for you as well, unless of course rainbow princesses scare you. So man up and participate so I don't end up being the only dude here.
