So, I do a lot of from scratch cooking and baking. I don't use margarine - I use butter. No shortening - though I need to figure out to what to sub in for shortening when I make biscuits. :(

And honey butter...

I use Land O'Lakes salted whipped butter on EVERYTHING. Sometimes I have buttered saltines as a snack. Mmmm butter....
And biscuits and gravy is one of my favorite meals.

You'd fit in in Newfoundland. They make toutons (bread dough fried in a pan) and serve it with lassie (molasses).

Yes, but this is totally dependent on where in the country you live. It's easier to just look at your local paper and see what is on special and then pick recipes based on that. Books on health aren't necessarily good either because what one person considers healthy can be a crock. People are fatter today even when they use low-fat foods because they replace the fat with carbs.
