Being that it's the middle of awards season, I couldn't help but think of one burning question:
Why are there award shows for music, tv shows, and music, but not books?
In my opinion, in terms of popularity in culture, books are practically equal to those other genres ( okay, maybe not, but they are still VERY popular ). Just looking at the number of members here on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ ( 25 million! ) to me shows that it isn't the minority who love reading. Also, massive cultural phenomenons like what I like to call, The Big 3 of the 21st Centruy : Twilight, Harry Potter, and The Hunger Games all obviously spawn from the massively popular books. Children LOVE being read to sleep, teens love it when they are actually assigned a GOOD book in school, and adults must love reading then they need to relax from those crazy lives of theirs.
For a red carpet premiere, I would LOVE for that carpet to be for the AUTHORS/PUBLISHERS/ETC. I would not wait for hours to see a celebrity on that carpet and to get their signature ( no matter how nice Jennifer Lawrence seems ). However, I would gladly wait in a long line to see/meet J.K. Rowling, Suzanne Collins, Stephen King, Dan Brown, Rick Riordan, Cassandra Clare, etc., and if not for them, many of today's biggest celebrities/ tv shows/ movies ( I point again to Jen. ) would not be near as popular, popular at all, or even exist.
*edit 3/4/14 That's my short rant; I'm know that there is the issue of whether or not it could get enough publicity because though books are popular they are not in our face everywhere like music and tv/movies ( at school, on the train, in a restaurant, etc.), but I do think that the MILLIONS of HP, Twilight, THG, Divergent, TMI, PJO, etc. fans would go BANANAS to see an award show with J.K. Rowling, Suzanne Collins, Rick Riordan, etc. I think those millions of fans would be enough, but right now no one seems to think so. Hahahaha, I can just imagine all the interviewers who know nothing about books trying to sound like they know what they are talking about ( you know you can tell when an interviewer has KNOW IDEA what their talking about and just reading off of a card ).
What do you guys think? Do you think books are deserving of getting their own award shows?
I definitely think they need more acknowledgment than they already get. I also think books are becoming more popular, especially with popular books being turned into films (such as The Hunger Games) which has made many of my friends actually ask to borrow my books. I think that the people who are making these films happen through their stories need to be known. I also think it would actually help the film industry as it is even more advertisement for their films of the books. Its kind of stupid that they still haven't done this yet...
I think an award show for books would be awesome, because most great movies have come from a book (hunger games, Nicholas sparks books, twilight) and I have also had friends and co workers ask to borrow my books to read before the movie comes out
Of course! I don't even know why they don't really have one. If there was such thing going on it would be one of the only award shows I would watch. Books are like movies in your head, you can imagine it to be anything you want and that's what I love about authors because they make books really interesting to read so I don't see why it would be a bad idea to have a book award show. Authors should get appreciated for the years thy have spent making a book that is fantastic!
Yeah! I would love to watch that show. Most authors don't get much recognition for their amazing work and many people don't even know that some of these talented authors exist. I don't see why awards should be given out to movies like the Hunger Games (not that it didn't deserve an award) when an award doesn't go to the author of the book that the film was based on! I'd love to be able to vote for my favourite authors because they put so much effort and hard work into their books, yet quite a bit of the time people prefer to watch the movie. Its not very fair on them!
I definitely think there should be an award show for books. So many bookworms (like myself) would love something like this. It would give many authors and books and opportunity to be appreciated and show readers new books they may have not read yet. It could also allow readers to see their favorite book be shown to a large crowd.
