This is just a place for us to talk about what books we've recently purchased, in paperback or Kindle or whatever.

I went on a massive buying binge last night and bought a load of Wordsworth Classics. They're super cheap, and I get that the might not be the best translations, but they're just so cheap I couldn't help myself.

So I bought:

Moby-Dick; or, The Whale
Crime and Punishment

They cost £10.07 in total. I was super chuffed!

The only book I've bought recently was The Horror Movie Societyat a book signing in a hastings bookstore and it was $10 so used a giftcard on it. It's a pretty good read for a 94 page book.

I know, I was really chuffed. Although I need to rearrange my whole bookshelf because they won't fit right now...

I went on an e book binge and bought 3 books yesterday. Two of them fall into the Chick Lit category that I want to read for the February Genre Book Challenge.

Every Last Cuckoo by Kate Maloy
and because I love Ann Patchett I bought The Patron Saint of Liars (her first novel).
They were all 2 or 3 dollars each.
I also want to note that I have never really been interested in Chick Lit so I am trying something new!

Thanks Holly - I blame it on how much I enjoyed An Abundance of Katherines. Once I read something I like by an author, that usually means I will read all of their works and in this case, I want to read them in short order!

I had a bit of a binge in the early January sales mostly buying debut novels by authors I've never heard of.

I will be investing in Count of Monte Cristo for the genre challenge. It's a book I've always wanted to read but never got around to.

I'm on book ban so I'm living through you guys book buying. I've made a pledge to use only library books and the books I get of good reads until I've cleared out my book collection - I have a huge hoarding problem when it comes to books. Always an excuse to keep it, I might want to read it again, the covers pretty, this ones signed, this one was a gift, it's a classic, they're part of a collection.
Te excuses are numerous! But I have real concerns my house may actually fall down from bearing the weight! The weight of books has collapsed shelves and a bookcase!!

that is the great thing about my kindle.....nobody knows how many books I actually have.

I'm also on a book buying ban until I finish the books I got before christmas/at christmas.

This is fun looking into every ones book bags. My 14 yr. old daughter and I went to Barnes and Noble on Saturday and had a blast! Not only did we come out with a bag full but had a large raspberry white chocolate with java chips frappacino. Yum!

Holly, I love your stack of books, they will look lovely stacked along side of your bed then to your bookshelves. Anyways, that's how books are stalked by my bedside. :) Do you ever buy the leather books from the used book stores? I would love to start that obsession. Maybe a road not to go down.

Very difficult. I keep making notes of books I want to buy though for when I finish my stack. Hopefully by March or April I'll finish the books I have.

When I indicate 'Want To Read' I also add it to the 'Books to Buy' shelf in the hope that if someone wants to treat me all they have to do is go to my shelf!

I have a notebook. I actually write them all down and label them which ones I am buying and which ones are from the library. I always have a budget for the year. I am constantly trying to decided what is worthy of a purchase.

I write everything down. Sometimes I do go out and buy the book after I read library copy but I would have to really really love it to do that. I hesitate to buy some books too

Lorah, I get most of my books from charity shops. I will occasionally buy brand new but only when I've got the money to spare, which is rarely. I'd rather spend £10 on ten books from a charity shop than £10 on one book from Tesco. Waterstones is even pricier but I usually get the new Diana Gabaldon from there because Tesco only sell certain authors. I do like brand new books but many of the books you get from charity shops are in pretty good nick. I got Ben Elton's Blind Faith in hardback from the Sue Ryder for only a quid and it was in perfect condition. Not even a folded corner. Some people give practically brand new stuff to charity shops.

So, I broke my own rule this past weekend of not buying books until I finished my other books... I was waiting my hair salon appointment and stopped at the book store... Bought Rebecca finally and the rest of the Cousins War series books by Philippa Gregory. I need some book buyers anonymous. I have been doing a better job of focusing on the books I have though this month.

I just bought Lost Lake by Sarah Addison Allen because the digital library doesn't have it an my library only got one copy. I would like to know how they decide how many copies to get because really one copy, there was probably a hold list before they got the book. I just didn't want to wait.

I acquired some ebooks for free on goodreads recently. These are ones you can read and download to your ereader on your tablet. You can find them at the ebooks section of the goodreads site under explore.

I just realized I have not purchased a book in over a year. We have a very good lending library here in Broward County, and I get a lot of books from family and friends.

I had a garage sale today, and I promised myself that I could spend half of the proceeds online in a splurge-like fashion. I got more money from it than I expected, so I've made out like a bandit on Amazon! :D

Receiving books from Amazon must be one of the best feelings! I don't think I've bought a book new from waterstones in at least 2 years.. I just cannot justify spending like £7 on one book. Charity shops are my best friends!! And amazon, and the libraries....

But that's the beauty of the books I bought, Amy - they're all (except the Wombles) published by a company that does thrift editions of classic books, so they're new but only cost as much as (or less than) books in second-hand stores! :D

Basically, I searched the company's name and just kept clicking "Add to cart" whenever I saw a title I haven't read yet, haha!

I discovered just in time yesterday that Chapters (Canada's big bookstore chain) was having a 3-for-$10 sale on select classics! I jumped on that like a life raft on a perilous sea. ;)

Just bought this ebook tonight which was on special offer at £1.70 from Amazon - We are all Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler. I just need to shut the world away for a few days which is near enough impossible at the mo! These books will all go towards my teeny tiny goal of 10 books from now till the end of the year.

From our local used book store The Complete Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle; and arriving in the mail the other day, Sneaky People by Thomas Berger.

I was having a hard time finding the Sherlock Holmes mysteries and this volume is complete with the first four. The Thomas Berger mystery was referenced from the author Thomas H. Cook as his top ten favorite mysteries. Here's the link,

Topazriver, Life after Life and Doctor Sleep are AMAZING reads. I thoroughly enjoyed both of them. Doctor Sleep stayed with me for weeks afterwards.

Now I'm on a book buying ban 'cause I keep on buying more and more books and I haven't read half of what I bought recently.

Last saturday I got six books from a bookstore that is connected to one of the libraries near me. The store is run by volunteers from a "Friends of the Library" Organization. Most of the books (and records, tapes, tapes on book) are donations but a good portion of them are older books that had been in the library system and were either replaced by new fresher editions, overflow of stock or other (lack of interest maybe?). All 6 were priced at $1.50 but I was charged a little less as my grand total was under $7.50.

found two for 30 cents at Big Lots today: Jane Slayre: The Literary Classic with a Blood-Sucking Twist and Sizzling Sixteenso that was a good deal.

The local library had a sale today, and I got the following books:
