Fairlee - thanks for the recommendations. Just a couple of items on your posts:
1. You posted two sets of recommendations for me (Lyn), which should I use?
2. Tien is going to read 2 books, so you need to recommend 3 for her, not just two.
3. Amanda's list is now posted, so you can pick for her. She gets 3 books, too.
4. We still do not have a list to pick for you from. Did you want us to just pick from your to read shelf?

Really? And here I thought that I seem to be reading more popular books than any of the lesser known ones... it could be that there are quite a number of Aussie books, maybe?
And can you believe it, I meant to pick up The Invention of Wings this week for Readers Pursuit BUT I could NOT find it anywhere :( :( :(
Vaguely recall lending it to a friend whom I've messaged but she couldn't remember borrowing it either, ack! Said she'll have a look at home though... am very sad :'(

I think you are right, there are a lot of Aussie books on your list, which I haven't been seeing lately. Cam used to be my Aussie book recommender...As I said, a lot of them looked really interesting.
ACK!! I hate when that happens with a book. I had that happen just a few months ago. I looked everywhere for the book, and I have it listed on here as a book I own, but could not find it anywhere. I ended up having to wait and get it from the library. I don't lend books out very much, though, as I have had a lot of trouble getting them back.

Lol, it would be fun to see what you think if you get the time.

Has anyone started on their books yet? I am still deciding which ones to read, cuz I really want to read them all.
I haven't started but I've brought Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage with me today and am planning to start on the way home from work (not that I haven't got 5 other books going already!)

2 audio books and 4 books going here ...

that doesn't include the couple of abandoned books by the bedside.

Amanda wrote: "I have two books on my current TBR shelf, and both are picked by one person, is that allowed ?"
Yep - if you chose to read 2 books, both of them can certainly be from the same person. :)

I've finished Colorless! I rated it 4 stars because Murakami always seem to always mesmerise me with his writing. However, I seem to find some things to be reminiscent of 1Q84 and the conclusion left a thread hanging which I really wished was resolved! Has anyone here read this one? I prefer 1Q84 despite its size.
I think I may pick up Leviathan next.
I think I may pick up Leviathan next.

I agree that 1Q84 was a better book. I really wasn't as taken with Colorless as I was with earlier works, and felt the same about The Strange Library, which just felt like I'd read it before but it had been better before.
It's months since I read it, so my memory is not so clear on it.
Murakami is one of my favourites. Only a handful of books I haven't read.

I have yet to read any Murakami. I'm guessing I should start with 1Q84?

Maybe something shorter such as Norwegian Wood or Sputnik Sweetheart, which is where I think I started although I think The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle might be my favourite.
Eeep, no, I don't think you should start with 1Q84, Lyn, ha ha ha... it's HUGE!
I agree with Amanda's rec. I prefer Norwegian Wood though.
I've still got to read Sputnik Sweetheart!

Tien, have you read any of the short stories ? Was Norwegian Wood one that started as a short story, was published, and then he re-worked it into a novel.
I don't recommend starting with the short story collections. Some are brilliant and are then disappointing because the could have been a novel, and others are a bit so-so. I think short story must be the hardest format to write well.

yes, it is. Did you watch the latest adaptation? It was pretty good!

I've finished my 2nd POTS book: Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. I really enjoyed it. It was so much fun and the illustrations were great. It close to the end where a romance might be hinted at and I had to groan... I was really happy without it and this doesn't happen very often :p

Watch?!? No!
oh, a vague recollection is coming to me ...
We only watch old stuff in our house. Husband is a movie freak and is raising our daughter on the "classics". Old Italian film on Friday night, and then Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis on Saturday. He is planning Barbarella for her next :/
