M.D. Curzon (mdcurzon) | 1 comments What's your favourite Kafka story? I love all of his work, but my overall favourite is probably the short story 'Description of a Struggle' - It's such a perfect encapsulation of the subconscious, and I think he himself liked how it was 'out of the house' :) I wonder if it was largely a transcription of a dream? Gordon Houghton (gordon_houghton) The Burrow. I love its defensiveness and paranoia; the whole story is such a beautiful, self-contained extended metaphor.

Phillip | 54 comments They are all so wonderful, though each in its own way: my favorites: Judgment, Penal, Nocturnal Deliberations & Josephine .... the Burrow belongs there too!....

- - - but decent translations are hard to find, in my erstwhile opinion....

Egbert Starr | 1 comments I'm pretty partial to "The Great Wall of China." It's a prescient little piece foretelling the importance (or unimportance) of information as truth, and how what we embrace as "culture" or "norms of society" is maintained by customs and traditions whose origins we really hardly know (or even need to know anyway) the origins of. And I love its reportage-like manner.

Another gem is the rare and incredibly kind piece "A Sudden Walk," which is brief little excursion that takes five minutes to enjoy.

Marcelo (wearemany) | 1 comments "In the Penal Colony." Hard to pick any other as my top choice as I keep returning to it over and over again for enjoyment and my work.

I agree with Egbert on "A Sudden Walk," it's a short little gem and under-appreciated, in my opinion.
