Charlotte Jones (ramblingsofanelfpire) I recently finished the book and watched the film straight after and I'd love to have someone to talk about it too!
I'm going to keep this spoiler free for now by the way =)

I thought that the storyline of the film was extremely close to the book which I wasn't expecting from what I'd heard about the film.

The casting was amazing! Leonardo di Caprio as Jay Gatsby was a brilliant choice and he was an outstanding Gatsby in my opinion - very true to the original character.

The cinematography was unique (it was directed by Bahs Lurman but I haven't seen any of his other work) and I think there wasn't really much I didn't like. Even the odd mixed soundtrack with modern music in it seemed to work well...

I'd love to know what other people thought of this adaptation =)

Jenna Morrison (jennamorrison) | 12 comments I was surprised by the negative comments about the film. I love the book and I think they did a great job capturing Gatsby's life. I love Baz Lurman's films (except maybe Australia) and it's exactly what I expected from him. Great storytelling like Romeo & Juliet and more theatrical, musical vibe of Moulin Rouge. And I loved the soundtrack too. The modern songs worked brilliantly.

I haven't seen any of the other Baz Lurman films but I'm hoping to watch Romeo and Juliet soon =)

It's an extremely fast read, I hope you like it =)

I am about 3/5 of the way through this as an audiobook. I'm enjoying the narrator, Tim Robbins, but I have a feeling I wouldn't enjoy it as much if I were reading it on my own. Alas, I don't hate the story. It's just a little dry so far. I'm still going to finish it though. I will write more after.

I hope it picks up for you - I felt like it was a little slow at first but I think it's because the characters are all pretty dislikeable, at least in my opinion...I really enjoyed it by the end =)
