Anna (vegfic) | 190 comments Are fictional authors like Newt Scamander and Kennilworthy Whisp supposed to be in the database?

Empress (the_empress) If the book was published under the pseudonym - I think yes.

Anna (vegfic) | 190 comments I must say I don't know, I haven't read those two of Rowling's books. But looking at Amazon, most editions are listed in Rowling's name. Also on GR, most editions only list Rowling.

Anna (vegfic) | 190 comments These are the ebook editions that are for sale on Pottermore. They both list Rowling as author both in the book info and on the cover. Obviously there are many different editions, but since I don't have a physical copy, I can only look at what's online.

I really have no idea how these things are handled, that's why I'm asking. To me it seems obvious that these are not pseudonyms. The Princess Bride doesn't list S. Morgenstern as the author, to me this is a similar case.

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments I would have no problem dropping the pseudonym, but don't be too surprised if it reappears. Some books have a very enthusiastic fanbase.

I don't have this book however, but I was thinking of the Lemony Snicket books as the opposing case, fwiw.

Amanda | 2442 comments I own copies of these books from when they first came out, and on the cover it was only the "pseudonym" name. They were meant to look like they were textbooks from the Harry Potter series.

Personally I would leave both names. It's no different than Heat Wave, where the "author" is a fictional character.

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments There is the answer. Although they are not published that way now, they were on first publication. All editions should therefore have that name in the first position, per the manual regarding pseudonyms and changes of name.
