Please post a comment below to nominate a book for the group to read for November 2015.

Please use the "add book/author" link just above the comment box to insert a link to the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ book page for the book you are nominating, so other members can more easily assess it.

You may nominate a book which has been suggested previously and did not win.

Please do not nominate a book which is unlikely to be available to all members, such as one which was just published within the last three months or which is only available for Kindle in the U.S.

Nominations will close on August 21 or when we have about 10 good nominations, whichever occurs first.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 744 comments I'll nominate Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End by Atul Gawande again. I was just discussing it yesterday with a friend who is slowly dying of Parkinson's disease.

Gawande tackles medicine at the end of life. Many times modern medicine hastens the process &/or makes it far more horrific than it should be for no other reason than patients don't know enough to ask the proper questions & doctors want to try anything to 'fix' the problem, even when they know it can't be. He covers the history of nursing homes & the alternatives. He also discusses his father's death from cancer which was a real eye-opener to me.

I gave the book 5 stars & would love to re-read it with the group & discuss it. I'm sure the crowd here would have a lot to add.

Grace (themadmangoavenger) | 17 comments I'm on a history of and invention kick, so I'd like to nominate The Philosophical Breakfast Club: Four Remarkable Friends Who Transformed Science and Changed the World or something similar. I don't know of any other good titles off-hand, otherwise I'd add them.

That looks interesting & my library has it as an audio book. I'm getting it now. Thanks!

Courtney (conservio) | 94 comments I nominate Lowly Origin: Where, When, and Why Our Ancestors First Stood Up.

I came across it while reading The Ancestor's Tale A Pilgrimage to the Dawn of Evolution by Richard Dawkins and it sounds interesting.

I'm afraid this book doesn't seem to be widely available. Even Amazon U.S. doesn't carry the hardback, except for a few used copies, and it doesn't seem to be available in digital, and the new paperback costs $44. It also was not available in my local library, which is a large one.

Katy (kathy_h) | 181 comments I'll nominate Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation by Bill Nye. It is now out in paperback so should be easily available.

message 19: by Chris (new)

Chris | 2 comments For what it's worth, the two highest rated books out of all those nominated so far are Being Mortal and The Vital Question.
