With the holidays coming up, it's the most popular time for movie releases. Several of the upcoming movies are based off of popular books. From Frankenstein to The Martian, our beloved books are getting some time on the big screen. Many favorites have been made into films over the years, and it's always interesting to see how the movie compares to the book.

For this challenge, simply choose a number of books that have movie adaptations to read during the quarter. Bonus points if you watch the movie - and if you do, tell us what you think of the differences (mark your spoilers, of course).

Tasha has volunteered to lead this challenge. Thank you, Tasha!

I would like to participate in this challenge. It will be my first challenge since I've only been a part of ŷ for a while now. For my goal of books to read I will say 5 books. I don't know which ones yet, but I do want to read a lot especially since it is school time and it seems to get harder and harder to read.

Perfect timing for this challenge - have just watched The Maze Runner and it's next on my reading list after Stardust.
I'll go for 4

FINISHED Completed 4/4

1 Stardust Neil Gaiman - loved this book but yet to see the film - watched 21st November - fab film too even if it wasn't completely faithful to the book.
2 The Witches Roald Dahl - loved the film and the book although a number of differences in the film adaptation and preferred the ending of the book
3 The Color Purple
4 Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mount Everest Disaster Jon Krakauer - the book is better than the film

If you decide to watch one of the films, I recommend the Leo DiCaprio over the Robert Redford. DiCaprio's Gatsby was better - just try to look over the terrible music choice. Enjoy the book!

Yes! Tim Burton is directing it and I love his style, so I have high hopes for what he can do with the story. It's due for release in 2016 :)
I also liked the movie I Am Legend, however I wish I had read the book before as I ended up feeling let down by the book, unfortunately!
