Nick Tingley | 5 comments My name is Nick and I am trying (albeit very slowly at the moment) to be an author in my own right. I love crime and mystery stories and, depending on the subject matter, I'm pretty in to my thrillers as well. I guess my tastes are a little victorian and gothic as those tend to be the sort of stories that grab my attention.

I have just finished reading The House of Silk: A Sherlock Holmes Novel and thought it was quite a good attempt at revisiting Doyle's famous detective, although I must say that the best crime (ish) story I have read in 2015 has to be Simon Kurt Unsworth's The Devil's Detective: A Novel.

Although it really belongs more in the horror section, it is a fantastic book that I think pins down the idea of the anti-detective quite well but, as suggested by the title, it is very dark and set in Hell so it may not be for everyone.

Outside of reading, I write a lot and I love travelling around England, visiting castles and cruising down countryside canals.

Anyway, that's a bit about me. Looking forward to chatting with you all and getting stuck in to some of the discussions this group has to offer.

All the best

Hi Nick! Welcome to our group.

I just recently bought The Devil's Detective: A Novel -- going on the Halloween reading lineup.

It really is perfect Halloween reading. It was one of those books that I saw on shelf at an airport and thought about getting but didn't get round to it... The next time I was in the airport, I saw it again and got it and couldn't put it down...

Not sure that my experience of Portugal was marred by it at all as it is a very dark story but I had a great time nonetheless!
