Use this thread to request a book/books from the Librarians when you land on a Utility or Tax square.

For purposes of the game, all MODS will be Librarians. Librarians will be checking into this thread several times a day to pick books.

Yep, that's fine. Would you like a choice of 2 or 3 books or just the one?

You'll only have to read 1 book but I can give you a choice rather than having to read the one book I picked.

message 8: by Julinda (new)

Julinda | 35 comments Maybe a choice of 2 would be good thank you

Difficult choice as have heard such good things about both of them. I am going to choose Jasper Jones. Thank you.

This is an easy one, Karen. I pick:

After You by Jojo Moyes
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
AND
Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King

They were all 5 star reads for me.

Ah, easy picks, Charity. You have a list with a wide variety of interesting books. My picks for you:

The Grapes of Wrath- wonderful!
The Importance of Being Earnest - on this month's shelf?
Naked in Death - one of my favorite escapist series!
The Bookman's Tale - I'm considering it, and would like to know what you think of it

No problem. It's fun to do some choosing. We should probably leave the next one for you to do.

No worries...I would rather the person get their books as soon as possible since I am not on all of the time!

Finished Kindred! It was like a car crash, you know... I know it's getting to be late & bad for me (later in the day!) to still be up but I couldn't stop! lol

It's a confronting look at slavery from a future pov which I found was easier to contend with due to me listening to Uncle Tom's Cabin at the same time. Uncle Tom has broken my heart twice already (nearly cried) so I find that Kindred is a step or two removed from heartbreak.

And yes, I Kindred was amazing, wasn't it?

Tien,

Bizarre. Almost every book on your list that I've read is one I've given only 3 stars to. So I didn't pick those.

And did you know you have Disruption on the list, but you've rated it ( 5 stars)?

Anyway, my choices for you are:
Aunty Lee's Delights - cozy mystery; tell me if you like it
Passenger - looks wonderful!
Letter from Birmingham Jail - listening to it could be very powerful

message 34: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9030 comments Mod
Thanks for the picks, Susan, i love the idea of Passenger. I mean time travel & pirates! Nuf said!

I'll have to do a compare books with you when i get on pc to check this out...

I wanted to reread Disruption so i could read the next book (its a duology) so ive put it there. Ive a feeling no ones going to pick it though since its marked as read ;p

Tien wrote: "I wanted to reread Disruption so i could read the next book (its a duology) so ive put it there. Ive a feeling no ones going to pick it though since its marked as read ;p ."

I admit, I didn't pay much attention to Disruption for that reason. I wonder if you could use a different edition as a dummy on this shelf, so it didn't affect people's choices? In the same way, I usually steer clear of later books in a series if an earlier book is on the list. I think you have a few like that.

That is an interesting dilemma, Tien. I never really thought of that.

As for the series books, I made sure to only put the next book that I need to read on my shelf so people don't have to worry about that. Then if someone picks it and I read it, I can put the next one on the shelf.

message 37: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9030 comments Mod
my logic is that if it's 1 or 2 after the series, it would encourage me to get up to date though if it's way later than that, I'd probably pick another book to read ;p

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
Too true, Tien

Northanger Abbey

The second two are favorite classics of mine. The first one I really want to read myself. I hear it is great.

message 47: by Susan (new)

Susan | 3745 comments Mod
Glad to, Marina. I choose:

A Beautiful Mind - I gave it 4 stars
The Light Fantastic - I haven't put Discworld on my TBR yet, but I suppose I should
Magical Thinking: True Stories - I'd never heard of it, but it sounds like it could be a great read. Adding it to my "considering" list

message 48: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) | 1510 comments Thanks, Susan. I'll choose A Beautiful Mind, as it's been 3 years (!) on my TBR.
