You had finished Week 51! You read a book based or turned into a tv show.

This discussion thread is solely for your progress. (Book discussions go in individual threads.)

Which book did you read?

Did you enjoy it?

Have you seen the tv show?

If yes, which one do you prefer?

Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

Did you enjoy it?Yes, a lot! Although I thought it was full of clich¨¦s, the story caught my interest since the beginning.

Have you seen the tv show? Not yet, but I am planning to.

Which book did you read? How to Train Your Dragon

Did you enjoy it? Yes, it was different from the movie but it was well done.

Have you seen the tv show? Not yet, just the movies.

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments Which book did you read? A Study in Scarlet

Did you enjoy it? It was ok. I've since discovered that it's considered far from being the best of the Sherlock Holmes books, but I'm trying to read them in order (as much as there is an order, anyway).

Have you seen the tv show? No, I've never read or watched anything Sherlock Holmes related.

Michelle (mich2689) | 122 comments Which book did you read? A Dance with Dragons

Did you enjoy it? Yes.

Have you seen the tv show? Yes, but there were quite a few differences from the book

If yes, which one do you prefer? Book. The answer to that question is almost always the book.

Sophie (sawphie) Which book did you read? Pines by Blake Crouch

Did you enjoy it? Yes very much!!! I read it almost in one seating, it was 5 stars for me.

Have you seen the tv show? Not yet, and I'm not sure if I'm going to watch it...

Jody you should definitely watch the Sherlock tv show, it's amazing!

Francesca | 391 comments Which book did you read?
Orange Is the New Black

Did you enjoy it?
Yes! It was very interesting and quite insightful, and I liked seeing where the fictional characters had come from and who they were representing.

Have you seen the tv show?
Yes!

If yes, which one do you prefer?
I absolutely adore the show so I have to go with that. The show is a fictional telling and it just has so many more interesting characters that it goes into. As someone that isn't the biggest Piper fan and that can't stand Alex, I prefer the fictional show as I get to spend more time with the other characters.

Jean Cole (joc724) | 115 comments Which book did you read? Outlander byDiana Gabaldon

Did you enjoy it? Yes. Love the premise -- nurse time travels back to medieval times and falls in love with a warrior but had some problems with the "discipline" performed by the main love interest, so that kind of put me off the whole story.

Have you seen the tv show? No.

If yes, which one do you prefer? N/A

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments Jean, I've heard that about Outlander as well, which has completely put me off reading it (although I'm not much into romancey things anyway).

Yes I'm with you there. I'm not into the "bodice-ripping" genre but the time-travel thing intrigued me. There is quite a bit of discussion about the violence in this book. Surprising to me was that people called this book "rapey" (a new word in this world we live it). Surprising because there were many opportunities for rape in this book, but only one actual rape -- and not what you might expect. My two cents is that this was an attempt by the author to apply a "Shades of Grey-like" feeling to the "discipline". But it really bothered me that he did it, then explained that he "had to" for her own good. Or something. Most disturbing was her complete acceptance of this explanation. Isn't that what domestic abusers use as an excuse all the time? Anyway, there are multiple forums out there discussing this very issue. All I can say is I won't be reading the subsequent books in this series. Probably wouldn't have anyway.

Did you enjoy it?
YES! XD Review/discussion here

Have you seen the tv show?
I have! The tv show is currently running, and is only up to 10 episodes.

If yes, which one do you prefer?
So far I like the tv show, if only because the comedic timing is a lot better, though there are parts they left out of the show and are in the manga. And both the manga and anime does the action scenes VERY WELL.

Christi Which book did you read? D¨¦j¨¤ Dead by Kathy Reichs. It was the inspiration for the tv series, Bones.

Did you enjoy it? I wanted to like it. I really liked the first half. And then it just went off the rails. It was less about the investigation and the forensics than it was about the main character running around playing lone detective.

Have you seen the tv show? only a few episodes years and years ago

If yes, which one do you prefer? neither!

Dana? | 30 comments Which book did you read? Mr. Monk Goes to the Firehouse by Lee Goldberg

Did you enjoy it? It was all right.

Have you seen the tv show? It's one of my favorite shows.

If yes, which one do you prefer? Definitely the show. Honestly the book would have to have been AMAZING for me to like it as much as the show, so I went into it knowing I would probably be feeling "meh" toward the book. I kept hearing the characters voices while I read the book, but they just weren't quite right to me. And the book had at least one mistake (something the main character would NEVER have done). Since the author is involved in the show I have to wonder if that mistake was deliberate - kind of an inside joke, perhaps.
