I could not put your book down. It is great work. Here is the review I posted:

An Eighty-Three Years Journey of Our World

Kostov, Chris (2014-02-24). The Communist Century: From Revolution To Decay: 1917 to 2000 (The Century Series) is an intellectual masterpiece of an ever-changing world. Having been a college journalism professor, I think all college students should read this work.

Mr. Kostov brings history to life in a way that captures the least savvy reader’s attention because of his poignant and lucid prose. A reader would suddenly discover an urge to wanting to know more and seek the power of knowledge.

There is so much to learn from this great project; yet, we discover, considering the world that is today, that human nature has never changed and that we are, indeed, all the same capable of committing the most atrocious acts and, sadly, find all kinds of justification for our actions. The United States, today, is a good example of this fact. It is as though history is a continuum � which it is � but only the players are different.

Being interested in the human condition, I find this magnificent project a lesson to us to look at history as not something that is dead and gone, as many of us may believe; it is alive and progressing. Take what the author notes about Marx and Engels who “considered violence, dictatorship and terror as perfectly legitimate means for the working class in the fight against the hegemony of capitalism.� Isn’t it the same today how Capitalist propagators believe, “End Justifies the Means?�

The author also notes that “The German government, however, decided to use Lenin as a wonderful opportunity for creating turmoil in Russia and allowed Lenin and his friends to return to Russia via Germany and German-occupied territory by train, in a sealed railway car.� Seeing what Germany, under Angela Merkel, is doing to Europe today made me think nothing has changed, only the players.

I was quite surprised at my ignorance of knowing the roles France and Britain played during those historical years. I have also found parallels, in today’s NSA’s and USAID’s illegal activities and blaming Snowden, to what the author notes that Stalin “was not the only responsible person for these crimes. All the executions were signed by four or five other high rank communists and Politburo members. Some of the executions were signed by later Stalin’s critics who tried to put all the blame on Stalin.� While the Director of the NSA, despite lying to Congress, goes home free, the patriotic and courageous Edward Snowden goes to exile.

What a great project, Chris. Thank you for the rewarding research.

A very good perspective on communist ideology and the inherent dangers.

I found this book to be informative and brilliant. I would recommend this to any perspective students of political science and history. I wish I could have recommended this when I was teaching college a few years ago and a student asked, "What is communism?" This would have answered the question far better than I was able.
