or the end scene where Scarlet shakes her fist at the world.

Here's a little tidbit for you: The famous green dress weighed 35 lbs and was made in a whirlwind 3 days...to follow along with the story. Also, it appears the Daughters of the Confederacy helped Walter Plunkett. Off the top of my head I can't remember the amount of fabric used.
Because I love old movies as well as creating victorian clothing, I was interested in watching the movie-which was long but very good.
I may not get to this in December, but I will read it in January. Thank you.

My apologies...the green dress was made in a single night just as it was in the book.
"Seamstresses worked feverishly to complete 2,868 costumes, not including 1,230 Confederate uniforms. Three weeks were required just to make one striped dress for Scarlett.......(there were twenty-seven versions of Scarlett's calico dress alone)...."

That's funny about Gable's bad breath! Who knew, he always seemed such the stud back then! As far as the pay, I'm not sure the equality in that has improved much in the last 100 years.... although, I think she was fairly unknown at the time and Gable was already a heartthrob, which holds true today with well-known vs. unknown actors. I could be wrong about Leigh, though... she certainly had a prolific acting career; I just can't remember how much was before and how much was after GWTW.

She was an unknown before the movie.....introduced on the set. After she was definitely a hit.

In 1939 "GWTW swept away with a record ten Oscars" and here's how they were awarded:
Best Picture (Beating out: Dark Victory, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, Love Affair, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Ninotchka, Of Mice and Men, Stagecoach, The Wizard of Oz and Wuthering Heights)
Best Director
Best Actress
Best Supporting Actress (Hattie McDaniel. "This was the first Oscar to be awarded to a Black performer")
Best Screenplay
Cinematograph
Film Editing
Art Direction
Outstanding Achievement in the Use of Color
Memorial Award for Most Consistent High Level of Production Achievement by an Individual Producer
Of the many surprises that year:
Clark Gable lost to Robert Donat in Goodbye, Mr. Chips
Thomas Mitchell (Gerald O'Hara) won Best Supporting Actor "not for GWTW but for his work in Stagecoach with John Wayne"

As anyone seen any adaptations other than the 1939 Academy Award winner?
