One of the greatest things about winter is that college basketball is upon us. This challenge celebrates my alma mater, Duke University!

For this challenge, read ONE book from the option of your choice.

REQUIRED: State which option you chose when posting

Option 1: Duke's colors are blue and white. For this option, read a book where the cover is primarily (over 50%) Duke blue (officially it is Pantone 287, but any dark blue will be accepted). Ex:
Eragon (The Inheritance Cycle, #1) by Christopher Paolini The Price of Creation (The Historian Tales #1) by Lance Conrad Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon
Sky blue, baby blue, or anything pale will NOT work (too close to UNC's blue!)
Required: Include the cover when you post.

Option 2: Coach K has been the head coach at Duke since 1980. For this option, read a book by an author whose first and last initials can be found in KRZYZEWSKI.

Option 3: Duke has won 5 national championships (so far!). For this option, read a book identified on ŷ as #5 in a series (series title, #5).

Karen D | 673 comments Examples of covers that don't work:

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold Drums of Autumn (Outlander, #4) by Diana Gabaldon The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton The Murdered Banker by Augusto De Angelis The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

Karen D | 673 comments In case anyone thinks I'm randomly approving certain colors of blue and not others! (You certainly don't need to do this yourself if you don't want to, just putting it out there in case anyone is curious)

Here's a helpful way to check the color:

- Copy the image location into the search bar and it will bring up the predominate colors in the cover.
- Copy the Hex Color number (for example the Duke logo is #00509a)
- At you can see where that color falls on the spectrum. If it's darker than #00509a then it'll be good!

I would have thought that was more purple, but the color extractor says its midnight blue, so you're good!

This is good

The Silent Children by Amna K. Boheim
This is good

The Murdered Banker by Augusto De Angelis " This is a bit too light to work. It comes out mostly as cerulean.

I have a system for checking the colors, so I'll post that up top and hopefully that shows that I'm not being completely random with these!

This one comes up as mostly dark green, so no, that won't work.

Tempting fate is good!

The Miniaturist falls more on the lighter blue side, so that won't work.

Hahah yes, I'm sure it's confusing to plenty of people, but alums will definitely know for sure :)

It doesn't have to be the complete background, just enough to get over 50%. Unfortunately in this case, over 50% is black so it won't work. Sorry!

Kai | 177 comments The Dead Student by John Katzenbach What do you think about this for option 1? It's a deeper blue in person.

message 48: by Karen D (new)

Karen D | 673 comments Cindy wrote: "The Dead Student by John Katzenbach What do you think about this for option 1? It's a deeper blue in person."

Sorry, that only shows up at 43% darker blue (basically the top left corner is too light to make up for the rest of the cover).

And I completely understand how frustrating that is when something is obvious from the physical book but doesn't show up in the thumbnail, sorry!

Kai | 177 comments No worries. :-) thanks for looking at it..

message 50: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Greene (dakimel) | 816 comments I like your hex thing, though I don't understand it! I see that the book I'm looking at is over 50% blue, and half that is dark enough (#11506e - 27.2% Dark Cerulean), so what I need to know is if the other half is a dark enough blue, too, right? (#2897c3 - 24.2% Pelorous) I can't figure out how to tell that from the other link.

ANYWAY ;) please tell me if this is approved or not:
The Courtesan Duchess (Wicked Deceptions, #1) by Joanna Shupe
