Time to open nominations for January and February group reads!!!

Please read the rules for nominating BEFORE you create your post!! And check our bookshelves to be sure you are not nominating something we have already read as a group!

The categories for January and February are:

January = Book theme - any book about books, fictional or non fiction

February = revolving around Love, unrequited or otherwise (just no erotica or harlequin romance please)

If you nominate the book, and the book is chosen as a group read, you agree to lead the discussion! Don't worry, it's not hard, and we'll love you all the more for it!

Please do not nominate a book more than once. A book can only be voted on once, so multiple nominations within this thread are not counted.

Only ONE nomination per month per person.

Please be sure to post the title, author, and the month you are nominating it for.

Ideally, you can type it as follows -
August - Room - Emma Donoghue

If your post does not have those three things, it will not be counted.

Are you ready?

I'll accept nominations through the 20th. If we get tons of nominations, I may pull the plug on it a little early, so get them in as soon as you can!

Once I close nominations I will create the polls and let you know when it is time to vote!

Hit us with your best noms!

**Important note: At no time is it acceptable for an author to nominate one of his/her own books for the monthly group read. Likewise, it is not acceptable to "push" nominations or votes within this group. It also follows that "a nomination for a nomination" is not acceptable. If I suspect a push, or inappropriate actions have taken place within the group read nominations or votes, I reserve the right to deem those nominations or votes as ineligible.

Jennifer Fromke (jjfro) | 8 comments January - The Thirteenth Tale - Diane Setterfield

A great mystery about a mystery writer who asks another writer to write her true story. The Thirteenth Tale is the story she never published. Sigh! So. Good. I believe Jane Eyre makes an appearance (in the library) if I remember correctly...

Jennifer and Pam, both The Book Thief and The Thirteenth Tale were previously group reads, so are not eligible as nominations. Please pick something else for January, if you wish.

Elizabeth and Tabitha, please edit your nominations to match the required format shown in comment #1, or the nominations will be invalid.

Thanks.

When are you closing the nominations? I thought they were going to be closed on the 20th.

I went to close it out yesterday but wanted to give Elizabeth and Tabitha a chance to correct their nominations, Patricia.

So the nominations are closed except for the correction?

Christiane, Which month is it for? The post doesn't follow the guidelines so it will be ineligible unless you edit it.

Nominations are closed! Those entries that did not follow the format - including the title, author, and month it was nominated for - were excluded from the polls.

Polls are now open. And will close on December 27th.

You can vote once per monthly theme. May the best books win!

The polls are closed and our group reads are....

January - The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin, which was nominated by Patricia

February - Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson, which was also nominated by Patricia!

Patricia will be leading the discussions since her books pulled in the most votes!

Discussions will be begin on the 1st of each month.

Happy reading everyone and thanks for participating in the nomination and polling process!

Heather L (wordtrix) Another poll missed, and apparently only a dozen people actually got to vote. I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing you had left it open a bit longer to account for people being away over the holidays. Ah, well -- at least one of the books I would have voted for won. :-\

J. Schlenker January - The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin

February - Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson

Have read both books during last year's reading challenge and love them. Both are the kind of books that stick with you.
