I also just found out Bram Stoker's great grand nephew has a book coming out (I think next month). I forget his first name, but last name is also Stoker. So it would work for the Related by blood or marriage task.

Hi Susanna: There is a Help thread dedicated to Janice's task in the Task Help folder. Here's a link to it: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
There are quite a few good suggestions there, and Janice would be more likely to see and answer your specific question if you posted it there.
Cheers!!

Thanks Krista, that's great. I might eventually work out how to navigate the Challenge and find these threads myself - at the moment I even loose where I've posted questions, and end up having to Google my question!

I've answered this in the "Janice's Task" thread.

I picked up the book Vision Quest by Terry Davis at the library and wondered if this would fit for the coming of age task. The back of the book cover states "The cult classic coming-of-age novel is back." If not I can probably fit it into the Book/Movie task or somewhere else. Thank you!

Doesn't the book take place in 1850?

Before.

Hey Cynthia,
I want to be able to use a book coming out soon called The Five Greatest Warriors A Novel but I can't find a place to put it.
Would it work for 10.7?
Can You Read Faster Than A Speeding Bullet? - Christopher Reeve, Famous For His Role As Superman, Was Born On September 25, 1952...
In Honor Of Him Read A Novel About Heroes/Heroines/Superheroes/Super-heroines
OR
An (Auto)Biography Of Your Personal Hero/Heroine
I only thought that it might work there because they are trying to save the world from being destroyed! Except I've asked somewhere else and they thought that you might be looking for superhero's that have special powers! So would it work for this task?

Thanks."With audiobooks - if the book itself is more than 100 pages then the audiobook version is acceptable.

Just Listen would be but her others are not.

I minored in college in history and one of my favorite time periods was the Civil War. I haven't read the book (though I might have to find a way to work it into something, but it'll be going on my TBR shelf if nothing else). From the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ description/review, it sounds to me to be a precursor to the war since it is talking about the abolitionist/slave traders and reminds me a bit of Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin--a classic book (read in high school and loved it and recommend reading it).
I've seen some folks use Michael Shaara's The Killer Angels for the task. A pretty quick read by Gary Paulsen is called Soldier's Heart Being the Story of the Enlistment and Due Service of the Boy Charley Goddard in the First Minnesota Volunteers which was really good and I used it for the challenge. Oh The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane was another good one I read several times. I've mostly read non-fiction books and having a hard time thinking of fiction books for this. You can check over on the Civil War task board and see what other books have been listed if you're trying to find something: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1... . Hope this helps you out.

Can The Time travlers Wife count for 15.6 (I believe that right) that artist one. She is an artist.
AND For the homophones task can I use The No.1 ladies detective agency and another book with WON in the title. I wasn't sure if the number thing would work. I'm crossing my fingers :)

I would think that if they had to have special powers she would have mentioned it in the task. As it is, she mentions heroes and superheroes, which implies that superpowers are optional.

Thank you, Angela, for suggesting a book I might not otherwise have known about :)

I'm reading it for the one-word title challenge.

I checked with Cait and she's OK with Saturday as a thing.

(1) I just read Utopia by Sir Thomas More. It was 176 pages. I was wondering if this could count as an alternative history?
(2) For the Halloween adjective would "dark" be allowed to count when used in a context like Down a Dark Hall (in a scary, foreboding manner).

Utopia isn't really an alt.history--at least I don't think so. You could reason that More created an alternate world in which Utopia the place actually exists, which presupposes the idea that an history of that alternate world exists...hence, an alternate history. The genre of alt.history, though, seems to require a plot that revolves around how the world that we know would be different in that alternate history. If I recall correctly, all More does in the first part is attempt to make the existence of Utopia "plausible" rather than speculate on how knowledge of such a place would make the rest of the world different.

In writing an alternate history, the author makes the conscious choice to change something in our past. According to Steven H Silver, alternate history requires three things: 1) the story must have a point of divergence from the history of our world prior to the time at which the author is writing, 2) a change that would alter history as it is known, and 3) an examination of the ramifications of that change

I HAVE to use the library for books due to the economy and they are getting less popular books to circulate also. I may not get the group read done because the holds are quite long on these books this time since they are popular.
This way if we have the group reads in the near future we could plot ( the ones who use the library) how to request to get these books in time.
hope this makes sens

Yes, it was written in English, according to Wikipedia... Bram Stoker was Irish.

I think at the time Dracula was written, Transylvania was part of Hungary (Count Dracula says he is a 'Székely' which is a Hungarian ethnicity). Transylvania became part of Romania in 1918... Maybe it could count for both Hungary and Romania...??
It's one of my favourite books - I hope you get to read it!
