You can use the same book in as many as it fits! But you know me, I like to challenge a reader. Besides if you saw my TBR mountian, you would understand why I NEED lots of challenges. LOL.

I like the way you've put which month you read each book!

Harlequin Books (harlequinbooks) | 2362 comments Mod
:) It helps me keep track. Also, if anyone ever has a question about one of the books, I can find it easier in my office this way. I don't add them to my collection of keepers until the end of the year so the books I read get stacked on a table in the corner and if I know which month I read them, I don't have to search every stack. ~Kim

Yes, it will definitely get harder! I usually start my year off with just grabbing whichever book but by mid-year, I start searching my TBRs for specific initials which helps me trim my overwhelming TBR stacks.

No, the books do not have to be all Harlequins. It would be nice if your list was at least 50% Harlequin or romance. Book challenges are great places for our members to see what we are reading and maybe get inspired to read the same book or ask questions about a book their not quite sure if they want to get it. Well, at least, that is my hope. ~ Kim

I was also very surprised because the story unfolded in the town of Perth, and city of Ottawa, Ontario ... (my home).

Thanks Dixie! So far I'm just reading the books I fancy, then listing any that qualify for this challenge, but I think that as the year unfolds I may have to get a bit more deliberate about choosing authors/titles etc to get my alphabet challenge completed!

Annie Burrows | 257 comments Well, since I was so far behind with the challenge, I actually went out looking for books deliberately to fill the missing letters this month! And I got three to add to my total - E - Elle James, heir to murder, F - Fiona Harper, The Doris Day Vintage Film club and T - Tara Pammi, The Surprise Conti Child. I am going to have to search for books by the initial, now, rather than just my favourite ones if I want to get all 26 letters of the alphabet by the end of the year. This has really fired me up to find new authors!
Anyway, I now have a total of 15/26 for this reading challenge, and I've already earmarked an author Helen Brooks to buy in next months order from Mills & Boon so that will be H covered!
15/26

message 27: by Harlequin Books (new)

Harlequin Books (harlequinbooks) | 2362 comments Mod
If no one objects, we could add "Q" to our list of letters (X,Z) which can be found anywhere in the name. But, there is Julia Quinn and Tara Taylor Quinn for Harlequin authors or you can go outside Harlequin for your books. As long as your challenges picks keeps you above 50% Harlequin books, you can use any published romance book.

Annie Burrows | 257 comments Right - I decided I needed a final push to get at least ONE of these reading challenges complete within the year, so I went down to my local library this morning to locate my final 3 authors, beginning with I, O, and U.
For I, I found a book called Cougars, by Claire Irvin, which is not a harlequin but is a kind of romance,
For O, I got a book called A Winter's Wedding by Sharon Owens - again not a harlequin, but I've been really good about only entering Harlequins the rest of the year and you did say we could have just a couple not. (grovel, grovel!)
Now, for U - I could only find authors writing thrillers. So I got one of those by Nicola Urson - Two for Sorrow. And in case this doesn't count (which it shouldn't really, as this is a romance challenge, right?) I also got a book called Wisteria House, by Pamela Hulton (the librarian said I might get away with it for this challenge by claiming the H is silent!) Anyway, it is definitely a romance!
If you allow these three books then I have finished the author challenge!
I await your verdict with bated breath.

Annie, you definitely have over 50% Harlequin so you can rest easy about that. As for Two for Sorrow, I went to Amazon and read the description. It sounds like the book will definitely have some intense relationships in it, Harlequin doesn't only stress romance, we have many authors who write relationship novels, be they between friends or family. We also have thrillers where the romance is definitely in the background. So I would say you may use Nicola's book for your U. I think Wisteria House would be stretching things a little bit. However, if the thriller just doesn't do it for you, in the spirit of the Thanksgiving/Christmas season, I would be thankful if you finished the challenge and gift you the joy of reading the book that appeals to you most. ~ Kim

Annie Burrows | 257 comments ok - I'll read Two For Sorrow as a Romantic Suspense then, and that will be my author challenge met (if fudged slightly)
I did pick it from other thrillers with an author beginning with U as it seemed to have a strong romantic thread in it, so thanks!
