B.M.B. Johnson | 6 comments I know there are quite a few great and awesome popular feminist books out there (and books with great female characters) which should not be missed by next generations of readers, but I would like to suggest that we also start a topic of great, UPCOMING books featuring great female characters which may not have the advantage of a large book publisher or advertising campaigns behind them. (Remember Harry Potter mostly rose to notoriety by word of mouth, after all.)

Books like That's What Women Do: A Feminist Manifesto and The Calling or even (perhaps selfishly my two books (Melody Jackson and the House on Lafayette Street and Melody Jackson v. the Woman in White) just to name a few.

Jenny Bravo | 2 comments Wow, I'm excited to see this comment! As a self-published author, I think it's incredibly awesome to see the platform being supported.

Hooray for great books, no matter what their publishing route!

Christie Powell | 2 comments Agreed. I love the freedom of indie publishing. I don't have to sign away movie rights and I get a say in the cover, for instance.
