I need feminism because I don''t want any future son I may have to go through what I went through at school

Also, I want any child of mine to be able to live freely in their gender identity without being pressurised into being something they aren't

message 2: by Chanel (new)

Chanel | 2 comments I need feminism because I feel like there is a lot of man hate in this world as well as inequality with women. I want to fight to both gender gaining equality in all aspects of life!

message 3: by Cassie (new)

Cassie Redmond | 3 comments I need feminism because I see my nieces and nephews (8 years to 6 months) and want them to grow up in a world where there aren't certain expectations or stigmas they have to fight growing up. Because my 5 year old nephew saying that I can't like Star Wars because it's for boys terrifies me about what kind of world we are leaving for them.

message 4: by Chanel (new)

Chanel | 2 comments That's a good point we shouldn't try to make children who they aren't and society shouldn't make them feel like they have to be certain way. Love it !

message 5: by Gana (new)

Gana Dresen | 3 comments Hey, great point. We all need feminism because the next generations coming and also for us. I dont want to be juged by anybody because of my gender or my outward epirience, I want them to like me because of my character and my abilities.
And as a second point I think all of these kind of thoughts we make about inequality makes as better humans because when we talk we recognise suche mean or incorrect sentences and also can help our friends to be more poliet and equitable.

±á±ð±ôô | 1 comments I need feminism because I want to jog at night and I don't need to be worried if I find some guy on the street.

I need feminism because I want my future kids to live free of stereotypes.

I need feminism to girls, black people and people with special needs to earn the same, in the same jobs, doing the same work and having the same results as white man.

I want feminism because I NEED respect, for me and for everyone, and it doesn't matter how they look like.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I need feminism because I have always worked in male dominated businesses and as an unmarried and independent woman I am always fighting against a perceptible anger towards my presence in these environments. Im exhausted trying to defend myself against the almost tyrannical system (made up of both men and women) that constantly says, "men are better than women." Enough is enough!

message 8: by Lucie (new)

Lucie H | 1 comments I need feminism to raise awareness on things I witness daily which are not okay but which people don't understand. I hear so many sexist jokes or remarques every day without people even realizing that what they are saying is offensive to women... And to men too. We are all enclosed in very strict expectations due to a crafted gender type, and talking about it and help people - male, female or other - to become conscious of that is very important to me. Equality shouldn't have to be a fight, everybody should be free to be who they want to be with no dicrimination because of it. And sexism is only part of the problem, we have a lot of work to do on equality for EVERYONE in this world.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

I need feminism because women have been pushed to level beneath men for too long, and I want to fight that. Woman can be just as strong as men are, in spite of the stereotypes that continue to exist. Just because we are physically smaller then men doesn't mean we are mentally smaller.

message 10: by Sara (new)

Sara Aragaki | 1 comments I need feminism because I want people to respect me as who I am (which doesn't fit into the typical definition of a "normal girl"). I need feminism for my friends who can't even cry anymore because they've been suppressing it for so long for fear of being seen as "weak" or "not manly enough." I need feminism because I open doors for people trying to be nice and sometimes they look at me strangely. I need feminism because it is so important for everyone to be treated fairly and equally.

message 11: by Emma (new)

Emma Bainbridge | 1 comments I need feminism because it is NOT okay for someone to be denied opportunities and rights on the basis of something as common as gender.

message 12: by Erin (new)

Erin | 3 comments I need feminism because this morning I had the following conversation:

Partner: What are you up to today then?
Me: I've got an essay to write for uni
Partner: (angry) Oh. So I guess you won't be washing my clothes today then.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I need feminism because I still have to explain why I need feminism.

message 14: by Robert (new)

Robert (therobertfinlay) I need feminism because as a writer I still find it difficult to tell my hero's journey without classing her as a girl/a female and thinking that that makes her journey any different from that of their male counterparts. To leave behind ideas of gender roles, stereotypes and generalisations.

message 15: by Habsa (new)

Habsa | 2 comments I need feminism because humanity as a whole should be aware of how gender inequality is a global issue. Sexism is a huge problem at school although we have developed as a society. I need feminism because want to be able to recieve the same wages as men by the time I get a job. I want the media to evolve from objectifying females and for men and stereotyping genders. I need feminism because I want young girls to be able to play more male-dominated sports and for it not to be deemed controversial.
Overall I need feminism because I want equality.

message 16: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 1 comments I need feminism because I feel more stronger, safety and free with him. I need feminism because I don't accept more gender stereotypes. I need feminism because I know that the women are able to do whatever they want, and the feminism gives strength to women believe on it.

message 17: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I need feminism because I don't want my future kids to have to listen to the stereotypes the media gives us now- and because right now, I want my male friends to know it's ok for them to cry and talk about their feelings. For my female friends to know they're fine not being the unattainable 'perfect' that we always see everywhere.

I need feminism because when I write (as a hobby), I want strong women who don't need to be damsels in distress. And as a reader, there shouldn't be a distinction between male and female types of books. (Which is the same for films)

I need feminism because I want equal pay, equal treatment, and equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of who they are.

I need feminism because I should be allowed to attempt to study whatever I want, without being told 'women can't/don't do that'. Also because I want my future kids (whatever gender they are) to be able to choose their own careers based on their interests, and for that to be fine.

I need feminism because when I wear dresses, it's because I like to look nice and not because I'm looking for male attention. When I wear jeans, it's because they're comfy and not because I'm a tomboy or anything else.

message 18: by Boila (new)

Boila | 14 comments Because I want women to be respected. Because I want our daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren no longer have to fight for it to express their opinions and to be accepted...

As a child, every time I opened my mouth, I was told to be quiet. So it feels even today. But it did not stop me from writing. Writing has saved my life.

message 19: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 02, 2016 08:47AM) (new)

I need feminism because my friends boyfriend says he needs to (at least!) get his master‘s degree if his girlfriend is donig her doctorate.

I need feminism because I used to blame women who love and enjoy girly stuff for the „bad image all women have. Thus women are to blame for sexism?? (=internalised misogyny)

I need feminism because my brother makes derogatory comments and has to stiffle his laughter when he’s watching a make-up-tutorial on youtube. And no one's saying anything against it!

I need feminism because my dermatologist jokes that I can prevent any man from assaulting me if he sees my terribly looking skin rash and I don't tell him that it's completely harmless.

message 20: by Aglaea (new)

Aglaea | 987 comments I need feminism because
Thigh gap seems more interesting than wage gap
Some men claim opportunities are equal for men and women
I don't want to explain to a potential daughter why mom hasn't fought harder for her, but a man's 1 is a woman's 0,80 for many more decades
Gender quotas on company boards shouldn't happen but the best person for the job should be appointed
Even after leaning in she isn't guaranteed a successful career yet
We shouldn't ask her what she was wearing
We need to teach boys about consent, not about the height of heels or length of skirt or depth of cleavage or alcohol ingested being a free ticket
We should talk about women who rape men
We should talk about women who abuse men
Women who enjoy lots of sex are called sluts
Men face rising eyebrows when stating they want to work with kids
Gender and sexuality isn't widely understood yet but we still see only two boxes on many forms
Girls are called tomboys if they want to play wilder, as if being a girl means only one thing
Boys who like dolls are laughed at, as if being a boy means only one thing
I don't want my future partner to "help" me at home, but he claims 50% of the workload without reminders or nagging (he seems to recall the next game on tv just fine so the memory is functional)

Rasneet Kaur | 5 comments i agree with every single word you just said

message 22: by Catrice (new)

Catrice Thornton | 49 comments I need feminism because even while discussing issues regarding feminism there are those out there that have decided that my asking for equality is a subject "Not worth a damn".

I need feminism because I have to explain why I want the same privileges men have but they openly admit they have the privilege and DON'T need to explain why they get it.

I need feminism because even here, people are dismissive of others opinions and belittle or dismiss them as not important.

I need feminism because even here, there are people that will belittle you and then when called out for it claim it's 'just a joke'.

I need feminism because it's not important to you but you make it a goal to prove why it's not important. Period.

I need feminism because others don't even realize that making me prove I deserve what is just handed to them is inappropriate.
