"How interesting! It is like Arabella Montgomery in the 'Gypsy's Child.' Did you ever read that sweet story?" asked Rose, who was fond of tales of foundlings, and had read many.

I will investigate the link above as soon as I'm home! Thankyou. I was thinking it could be fictional, but there were a number of other books mentioned that are all real, an as this I e sounded so interesting (in a Jane Eyre way) I really wanted to find it.

However, although she has a few books with "Gypsy" in the title, that particular title isn't listed. Interestingly, Elizabeth Ward advocated against corsets, which Eight Cousins also advocates against.
The four books in the series are
Gypsy Breynton
Gypsy's Cousin Joy
Gypsy's Sowing and Reaping
Gypsy's Year at the Golden Crescent

Gypsy's Sowing and Reaping

I'm currently reading Louisa May Allcott's Eight Cousins, and in chapter one where Rose meets Phebe the new house maid, and they become acquainted, Rose mentioned that Phebe is a lot like a girl from a book she enjoys. The books about a girl called Arabella Montgomery. She's a Gypsey's child that is abandoned at a poor house/church/orphanage, where she is raised, and apparently, she grows to be a very independent young lady working for her future.
There are other books mentioned throughout the book such as Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickins, which are obviously real. Searching for this book however, leaves me coming up short. If anyone can help I would appreciate it a lot! Thank you!
