Welcome to Braggsville by T. Geronimo Johnson- race
The Sellout by Paul Beatty, race
Beneath a Meth Moon by Jacqueline Woodson- addiction. For those looking for short books, this one is 182 pages. Also, many of Woodson's books would fit this challenge and are short...some may even be too short.
One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia is also short- 220-ish pages

I was thinking earlier that perhaps you were overthinking it.
Is everyone ready to go? Books picked, favorite beverages and snacks, comfy chair?? The toppler begins at 9 am tomorrow morning in my time zone and I have The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks loaded up on my Kindle, waiting to be read!! :)

One bad thing about the Toppler: while gophering, I added enough books that now my TBR book shelf is bigger than by "Read" bookshelf on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. I was trying to keep the TBR lower, but...

The toppler will start at 9:00 am here too, but I have to work so I won't be able to start until later.
Actually, the timing of the toppler isn't very good for me. The last week of any month is crazy busy. February is crazy busy. I haven't had a day off since Feb 7th. And now I have a friend in crisis. Her sister is very ill. Still, I hope to get two books read.

I'm not sure how many books I will be able to read. I'm aiming for two but I might be able to stretch to three.

Sorry to hear about your friend, Janice.

So happy reading everyone and I'll try to keep the crazy to a minimum

Team Three Times a Winner is expanding their minds through some great reading this week!

I've tried so hard to limit my TBR. I have a rule: I cannot add a book unless I own it or can get it. So if it's not in my library, I have to buy it. If it's out of print and a copy's $50, I have to buy it if I want to add it.

I almost missed this. Thanks Lisa. It's a heartbreaking situation.

Those books end up on my wishlist. There used to be a day when my wishlist was maybe 10 books. And then along came goodreads. :)
I am sorry, Janice. Hoping you can provide some support for your friend.

Thanks for the sentiment, Kristie. Unfortunately, her sister is in the advanced stages of cancer.

That's awful. It's going to be a difficult time. Stay strong. I'm glad you are able to be there to support your friend.

That's upsetting and sobering to hear, Janice. It's nice that she has a good friend in you to support her and her sister during this difficult time.

"There will be 10 points for each book read, and 10 bonus points for completing the following: To be added in a bit"

Take plenty of pills (green or blue) during the Toppler, and get your wife a case of good wine. And good luck on the refinancing!
Added The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks to my "currently reading" updates and I best sign off of GR soon, so I actually get some reading done, lol!!

I had to go out at noon to run some errands so I started my book, Lolita (audiobook). I'm not sure, but I'm thinking it's sexual abuse of a minor. The very beginning talks about there being a crime.

I found it about 15 minutes before the caucus started. So I was able to go. The key is red, so you immediately know which one it is when it's on the keyring. For whatever reason, my husband left the key on a red pot holder in the kitchen. So it wasn't anywhere "normal" and it was camouflaged.

Well, you can still tell him he's on his own, not because he screwed up but because you need to read.

I read the series years ago and the first thing I thought was Tirana who? I am glad you said that too because I was wondering if I could have completely forgotten a key character and was thinking that I don't have time for a reread right now.

The book read
What issue it’s about
What did you learn?
What are the legal, ethical, and moral implications?
Can you see the other side's viewpoint or understand where it comes from? (This doesn’t mean you agree with it)
What causes the issue?
Are there compromises, treatments, or preventative measures?
What actions can be taken to stop/control/prohibit intolerable actions?
As citizens of the world, how much responsibility do we have to do something about inhumane actions? And what kind of actions can we take?
Is having a label helpful for others to understand, or does it give a negative connotation that affects others views?
What leads a person to certain behaviors, and what can be done to help someone caught in the cycle? Is there a way to prevent them?
Who determines what constitutes the issue (like discrimination, sexual harassment or bullying)? Does reporting harassment result in appropriate action being taken, or turn you into a pariah?
Does inappropriate behavior invite inappropriate response?

Yeah, I'm disgusted already and I'm only a few hours into the book.
So did the connotation of Lolita representing sexual abuse of a minor come from this book? Or did the book take the title from the connotation. I'm thinking the book started it all.
