I always read in the exact same spot. The chaise in our living room. When--whenever I can! Post-8 pm I get more solid reading time in because the boys are asleep and can't interrupt.

2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?
Real. All the way. I have a Kindle...but I cannot use it. I have to read actual books or I won't finish anything.

3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
Nope.

4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?
I drop books really easily. If it doesn't grab me within the first chapter, it goes back without being read.

5: What are you currently reading?
Eeny Meeny (Helen Grace, #1) by M.J. Arlidge and The Falconer (The Falconer, #1) by Elizabeth May

Karsyn (imzadi) My Bookish Habits

1: Where & When do you read most?
Where: During the day on my recliner, at night in bed
When: Varies depending on what else I'm doing. It can be all day every day or at the least just a few hours before bed.

2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?
eBook! Got my first Kindle in 2011 and never looked back. In Jan I did read my first 8 paperback Trixie Belden's, when I was reading shorter books for TTIV, but before that I had only touched 1 "real" book in over 3 years.

3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
Yes, and I almost prefer audiobooks, but it depends on the story. The one I just listened to during the night was not what I normally like for audios as there were a lot of characters and things going on to keep track of, but I was sleepy and it's easier when I'm sleepy. For the first year since I started reading audiobooks, I've listened to more on the year than read ebooks.
52 audiobooks, 23 ebooks & 8 "real" books so far in 2016

4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?
Not that I know of. I know right away if I will like a book or not, and it's very very rare that I stick for it for whatever reason (like a challenge) and end up liking it. But I don't consider that a bad thing.

5: What are you currently reading?
When my next sprint comes around I will be starting A Symphony of Echoes (The Chronicles of St. Mary's, #2) by Jodi Taylor . The first book was AWESOME, so I'm looking forward to diving into this one.

Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments 1: Where & When do you read most?
On my living room couch or in bed at night whenever I have time and not working.
2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?
I read both. Mostly e-books in English and "real" books in Estonian.
My Kindle goes everywhere with me :) I think it's the best electronic gadget ever made!
3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
No. For some reason I can't concentrate and miss most of the story this way.
4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?
Not that I know of ... they are all good
5: What are you currently reading?
The Horse Dancer by Jojo Moyes by Jojo Moyes - it's going slowly because it's a bit depressing story
Stay by Allie Larkin by Allie Larkin - I adore dogs and stories with dogs in it :)

Karen D | 785 comments 1: Where & When do you read most?
Don't tell my boss, but lately I've been reading mostly at work. For some reason my job has slowed down dramatically and all my tasks come in late in the afternoon, so I get a lot of free time in the morning to read! That will change soon, I'm sure, so I"m taking advantage of it when i can!

2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?
A little of both. Typically real books, since I'm not allowed to have any electronics at work, but I enjoy my Kindle for trips and such, so I usually have one of each going at a time.

3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
Just discovered audiobooks! I like feeling like I'm not wasting my commute, or wasting time when I'm stuck in traffic. But I don't like how the narrator's voice can affect my opinion of the story for the worse at times.

4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?
Probably sticking with books that I really don't like. LIfe too short to waste on a book I'm not enjoying.

5: What are you currently reading?
Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater
And I'm hoping to get either A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic, #2) by V.E. Schwab or Red Rising (Red Rising, #1) by Pierce Brown from the library soon!

Angie ☯ | 2949 comments 1: Where & When do you read most?
I read anytime and anywhere that I have some free time!

2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?
Ebook - love my kindle

3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
I do - it helps me to get in some extra reading time while I am doing other things that won't allow for holding a book.

4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?
I will finish a book, even if I don't care for it.

5: What are you currently reading?

I tend to read in the evening/night time, usually in the bathtub.

Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?

I prefer real books when I can get my hands on them, but I have a lot of E-Books because real books take up so much space. So, both, I guess.

Do you listen to audiobooks?

Not really. I am considering getting some for long drives (books where the kids can listen too) but I definitely prefer to read it with my own eyes.

Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?

I don't always use bookmarks in real books- I will bend up the pages. I pretty much always finish a book I have started even if I am not enjoying it.

What are you currently reading?

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments 1: Where & When do you read most?
At night before bed is the most consistent. During the week, if I have time, in the living roo,. I also always have my kindle or audio book when waiting in line.

2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?
All forms -- i seem to run about 40% audio, and then 30/30 for kindle and "real" books. I mentioned that I track yearly stats so it's been interesting to see the trends. I do tend to read "big" books on my kindle.

3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
Yes, although I find that there are certain types of books that are better than others to listen to --- probably because I'm usually doing something else at the same time. I prefer either cozy mysteries, historical fiction or contemporary. Fantasy is hard when the world is really different. Also, books which change scene and POV often without giving good hints are difficult. In a book, a blank line usually denotes a change of scene, but you can't tell in audio as easily.

4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?
None that I can think of.....I'm trying harder not to finish things I don't like --- I'm not in school anymore.

5: What are you currently reading?
A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic, #2) by V.E. Schwab The Painted Kiss by Elizabeth Hickey

At night before bed almost every day. So mostly in bed. :)

2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?
Both. Though lately I do most of my reading on my Kindle. It's just more practical - lighter to carry around than the real book.

3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
Yes, but not more than 2-3 a month. I prefer reading.

4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?
Reading in bed - bad for the spine.

5: What are you currently reading?

on the couch in the living room at pretty much any time of day, in the car if someone else is driving and it isn't getting dark yet.

2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?
mostly "real" books. I think I have only read 3 or 4 on my Kindle or Nook. I have recently started listening to audiobooks, so I play those through my Kindle

3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
Yes, but only in the last 6 months or so

4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?
falling asleep while reading

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments 1: Where & When do you read most?
I read most at night before bed. It calms me down after a long day. The bad part is this has trained me to start feeling tired while reading so often find that if I try to read at other times of day it makes me drowsy and I just want a nap.

2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?
A little of both. If i'm on the go it's usually an ebook/audiobook. If i'm at home it tends to be a real book. I also prefer to get library books as ebooks because I don't have to worry about tracking due dates or anything.

3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
All the time! Lately this is how most of my reading is done. I listen to about an hour a day at least as I listen to it during my commute to and from work.

4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?
Falling asleep is definitely a problem. I also feel the need to finish everything even if I'm not a fan because you know, it might get better towards the end.

5: What are you currently reading?
I'm listening to the audio book of The Fall of Five and have to choose a book to read as I just finished Woman at Point Zero last night.

I read for small amounts of time through the day mostly. They usually add up, but it’s whenever I get an hour here or a half hour there. I read either on my couch, or my bed, depending on the time of day or night.
2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?
Definitely an EBook reader, kind of an audio book reader? I suppose it’s listening (I use a screen reader with a text to speech voice, which I use for everything on my computer.) If I read actual books, they would begin to take up so much space. For example, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was 10 volumes in braille, each one bigger than an average print book. Physical books are completely impractical for me.
3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
If my screen reading software counts as audio, then almost exclusively. If not, then I haven’t listened to an audio book in years. I prefer the text to speech because it goes a lot faster, and I’m used to listening to it at that speed.
4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?
Not all that many I can think of. If I don’t like a book, I won’t finish it. There are so many other things I can start reading. I guess, unless it’s for a challenge. Then, even if I’m hating it, I’ll make myself read it because I don’t want to let myself down. Maybe that’s a bad habit, lol.
5: What are you currently reading?
Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee
and The Secret Chord by Geraldine Brooks , which is taking me a while to get through.

2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both? I do both, and I have the Kindle APP on my phone so I always have a book available.
3: Do you listen to audiobooks? Sometimes. I haven't in a while but recently started up again.
4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits? Starting too many at once.

message 14: by Jen (last edited Mar 20, 2016 07:57PM) (new)

Jen (reader44ever) | 2930 comments 1: Where & When do you read most?
I read the most at home, late at night after my mother has gone to bed (or at least into her bedroom) and my puppy is asleep.

2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?
I do read both, but I read many, many more "real" books than e-books. I own a Kindle, and I have a LOT of books on it, but I usually have print books demanding my attention first. So it's rarely that I read a book on my Kindle. (I have both carpal tunnel and tendinitis, so it's easier on my fingers/hands/wrists if I read print editions, which vary in size. As my Kindle is always the same size, it sometimes hurts me to read too long on it, because my tendinitis acts up if I grip something for too long. With "real" books, no matter their size, they're always changing because as one turns the pages, the way you grip the book changes.)

3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
I used to never really listen to audiobooks. I tried a couple once, and once even managed to listen to the full book, but I find it too easy to get distracted when I don't have the text to engage my eyes. So I missed a lot and had to do a LOT of rewinding.

That said, I took a road trip from Arizona to Oklahoma and from Oklahoma back to Arizona via Texas last September. I decided to give audiobooks another try and I'm so glad I did! I discovered that if I listen when I'm driving, I CAN get the messages and rarely have to rewind because I got distracted. Driving engages my eyes, and on the freeways and highways to Oklahoma and back, not much thinking was required, so I was able to listen to five or six books. It was pretty wonderful. :-)

So I'm now open to listening to audiobooks, but I rarely do as I can really only listen when I'm driving. And I rarely leave the house. I tried listening to a book once I was home again, but it took me two months to get through it and I have the feeling I missed a lot because of how piecemeal I had to listen to it. :-(

4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?
Of course not, lol. If you own a book, that book is yours to do with as you wish. I don't believe in creasing my books or dog-earing pages or anything like that, but I don't have anything against people who do do those things to the books they own.

So I have much loved books that I've read many, many times, but that look like I've never once read them. ;-) (This is my way of ensuring that I will always be able to read them. If I always keep them in pristine condition, they'll be with me and re-readable until the day I die.)

The only thing I do that could be even remotely considered a "bad" thing is read past my bedtime. And sometimes, I read way, waaaaayyyyy, past my badtime. But the only person this hurts is me, as I risk becoming sick if I don't get enough healthy sleep. But still, when I'm reading a much-loved series (like I am now, lol), sleep is mostly sacrificed. ;-)

5: What are you currently reading?
I am currently reading The Others series by Anne Bishop and really, really loving it. I started it on Friday night, and in the past 48 hours I've only had nine hours of sleep. But I really, really, love this series, so it's sooo worth it! Tonight I expect to be up late reading book three: Vision In Silver. :-)

I prefer "real" books, and do not own an ereader of any kind (but I don't judge those who do)

3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
About half of my reading is through audiobooks

4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?
I sometimes read on buses/airplanes even when I know it will make me motion sick.

Everywhere and anywhere! Honestly in the bathroom & in bed on weekend mornings
2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?
I've been struggling with getting an e-reader. I love the idea, but at the same time I love the look, feel & smell of a real book with actual pages.
3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
I've never tried one!
4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?

message 17: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments 1: Where & When do you read most?
I'm usually reading in my chair in the living room. It's a reclining chair so I can position myself in different angles if need be :) I do most of my reading at night. My fiancé goes to bed at 8:30 so he can wake up early enough to get to work and miss the traffic. I'm such a night owl, so I'll spend that quiet time reading. Occasionally I'll read in the morning as well, but not too often.

2: Are you a "real" book reader, or ebook reader? Both?
I'm both. I'm picky about what books I have on my Kindle though. If it's a series, I usually get the real book, but not always. I have the Divergent series and the Hunger Games series on my Kindle. That's another thing as well - if I have one book of a series in one form, I have to have all of them in the same form. I also have a lot of romance books on my Kindle just because they're usually cheaper that way.

3: Do you listen to audiobooks?
No, I tried listening to an audiobook once, but I have such a hard time focusing on the story. It's like it goes in one ear and out the other. I'm definitely a visual learner and hearing someone talking just doesn't help me to remember anything.

4: Do you have any "bad" bookish habits?
My worst habit is starting about 6 books and not finishing any of them. I'm getting much better at that though. I'm only down to starting and not finishing 2 books :)
