So I read this book within the last 10 years, although I am not sure exactly when. I know it is written by a pretty well known male author who is still writing books

It is about a young boy (either preteen or early teens) who finds out there are parallel worlds. There is some sort of organization that is made up of hundreds of versions of him from other universes that are fighting evil. I know that he messes up a few times and most of his alternate selves don't like him. I'm also pretty sure the main struggle was between magic and science although I might be wrong.

This sounds great; I'd like to read it (if you can find out what it is). Your description reminds me a bit of Zelazny's A Dark Traveling A Dark Traveling.
