I think the title should read Pay and Play :)

Hey! Hmmm. I wonder if we have it already but it's buried in the sea of threads that we awesome people create daily? Hard to imagine this didn't start as such a general thread back on its day. I will try and keep an eye on this.

The emotional and public opinion oriented article can be found here:
These two articles fully articulate the contrast between what the public wants, pertaining to women's athletics, and what they get, both legally and on a more personal level.
The most simple reason people like to throw out as to why women in professional a the tics get paid pennies on the dollar to their male counterparts is always revenue. So let us talk about revenue. One might ask what makes the largest impact on revenue for a team or sport overall. the simple answer is sponsorships but we aren't politicians trying to pass a cause and effect bill so lest dig deeper. What would insentivise a company to put their logo on a player, arena or team banner? Well that is fairly obvious, air time. how many people the add will reach is directly proportional to its value.
So let's make this simple, women's golf vs men's golf. Golf as an overall sport has a huge following and on the women's side there are more college players than ever before, there are more tours for young professionals to step into the pro field. Now if you don't know anything about golf (and I don't blame you) there are a few key ways to make money as a professional, collect a purse for placement in a tournament, sponsorships and advertisements. Now no pro wins all the time so sponsorships are often the main source of income. We have already established that sponsors give proportionally to the number of people who will view their add. So if I am wearing a Tesla hat while I play every round I will get paid based on the number of people expected to be in attendance at the events I go to each year and the number of people expected to see me on television for the year.
The Profesional Golf Association (PGA), which represent only the men, has long standing contracts, since the 90s, with ESPN to cover all, if not the majority, of their events every year while the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) does not have such a strong contract. Millions fewer people see women play each year therefor the pay gap is huge because of all the downstream revenue loss.
(please see this article by a wonderfully talented monetarily restricted professional golfer to gain empathy and knowledge of the situation: Â )
Thank you all for reading, please leave your comments and suggestions below, I'm hoping for some amazing ideas to equalize air time and therefore sponsorship!
