Ten-year-old Annemarie Johansen and her best friend Ellen Rosen often think of life before the war. It's now 1943 and their life in Copenhagen is filled with school, food shortages, and the Nazi soldiers marching through town. When the Jews of Denmark are "relocated," Ellen moves in with the Johansens and pretends to be one of the family. Soon Annemarie is asked to go on a dangerous mission to save Ellen's life.

Up to chapter 4 (view spoiler)[ I loved this book as a kid, and I'm so excited to be reading it again! I am freaking out about the Jewish friend being killed, or at least her family, so I'm glad they're keeping her in their house. I didn't realise Denmark was invaded so early on, so that's really interesting to learn about (hide spoiler)]

Up to chapter 8 (view spoiler)[ It's good they have their uncle to hide Ellen. Although surely people will notice that the family has disappeared? I don't quite know how they think they're going to get away with that, unless they plan to leave the country. I'm worried the soldiers are going to somehow follow them there and find Ellen (hide spoiler)]

Up to chapter 14 (view spoiler)[ Firstly, I need that quote about bravery written everywhere, it's great. And much more importantly, I was so terrified for everyone in the last few chapters! It sounds like everyone was fine, and I was pretty confident no one would die (it doesn't seem like that kind of book) but I was scared of them being caught. Especially when those soldiers walked in... Ugh. And now I have to worry about Annemarie taking the package away. I wonder what's in the package? And will we find out? (hide spoiler)]
