Waiting for WOBBLE Read-a-Thon ~ DAY 4 (final day)

1: What book(s) have you finished for the read-a-thon and what do you think of them? What book is on the agenda for this last day?
I have read part or all of 4 books The Song of Achilles is my favourite of those. It beautifully re tells the story of the Iliad in a more accessible form. I am currently readingLittle Face and hope to have it done before the end.
Arthur & George was my least favourite - it rambled on too much getting nowhere.
2: Did you add any of the recommendations to your TBR? Which one(s)?
Yes I did but only if i could get them from the library. I am trying to reduce my expenditure now that i am retired
Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library
Out
Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness
Everything, Everything
Wife 22Just One Damned Thing After Another
The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy (although someone had recommended this one to me before)
The Great Zoo of China
The Invisible Library
3: What is it like where you live? Tell us a little about your town/city.
I live in swillington a suburb of Leeds West Yorkshire. We are blessed to live surrounded by glorious countryside. Today i have walked from my front door to a bird sanctuary, all around the lakes in glorious sunshine. On the other side of the road i can access footpaths to beautiful House and grounds, hardly touching a road. On the other hand we are less than 2 miles from the M1, the A1 and the M62 which makes it easy for me to get across and visit my family. I don't go into leeds much but York is only half an hour away and is a beautiful city.
4: What is your favorite restaurant? What foods do you like most? Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share?
I don't think i have a favourite restaurant although i love "the cow and Calf" a pub not too far away. Fish is my favourite food, any and all kinds
I make a mean quiche and i love Omelette Arnold Bennet so quick and easy

1: What book(s) have you finished for the read-a-thon and what do you think of them? What book is on the agenda for this last day?
Well, I only managed to get 2 books read that fit the task. I had to stop and read 2 books that needed to be read before due date.
Enchantment 4 stars
We're Not in Kansas 5 stars
I don't really have an agenda for today except to read whatever looks good.
2: Did you add any of the recommendations to your TBR? Which one(s)?
Not yet but I intend to take a look later today...
3: What is it like where you live? Tell us a little about your town/city.
Small town that thinks they are a city (seriously) but it isn't bad to live here. The school district is not well managed and a lot of kids in the area are in cyber school. Other than the school, I really like living here. There is a lot nearby to do. Not so much in town but in cities nearby. Pittsburgh is only an hour away and it is really a family friendly city. The library is my favorite place. They have a resident cat and have so many activities for families.
4: What is your favorite restaurant? What foods do you like most? Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share?
I love restaurants that feature buffets like Golden Corral or Ponderosa. I guess for foods, I like most anything. I love seafood and steak though. My favorite recipe actually has neither of them in it- LOL. I have a recipe for "Penny & Potatoes" that I love to play with. It is basically sliced potatoes and hot dogs covered in evaporated milk and baked in the oven until the potatoes are soft. However, like I said, I like to modify this basic recipe. Each time I make it, I slice up a different type of sausage or add something to it. The last time I added jalapeno sausages to give it a kick. It is a very versatile recipe and my family really enjoys the little additions each time.

Oh, wow! New Castle.
I grew up in Fombell. You might be one of very few people who know of it. Spent the first 13 years of my life there, before being uprooted and moved to FL. Most of my immediate "family" lives between Ellwood City and some towns in the panhandle of WV, but I know there's cousins and people I don't even know from (or at least used to be from) New Castle to Evans City to Beaver/Butler and everywhere in between. I say "family" because I'm the devil of them (black sheep is nothing compared to me) and they have nothing to do with me.
I haven't been to the area in a LOOONG time. Last time was in 2003 when my father died. Fombell/Ellwood hadn't changed any but Cranberry sure had.

1: What book(s) have you finished for the read-a-thon and what do you think of them? What book is on the agenda for this last day?
Well, I only managed to get 2 bo..."
LOL actually I do not know where Fombell is but I know the general vicinity of Ellwood. I barely know my way around. We moved here almost 2 years ago. I can get around town but basically know the main streets and where all the shopping areas are. The kids signed up for baseball & softball and I am having a heck of a time finding all these fields- LOL.

1: What book(s) have you finished for the read-a-thon and what do you think of them? What book is on the agenda for this last day?
Well, I only mana..."
Ah, well that's one way of not knowing Fombell. :)
It's not even a town, just an unincorporated district. It's in the between Ellwood City and Zelienople. Nothing there but farms and houses.

1: What book(s) have you finished for the read-a-thon and what do you think of them? What book is on the agenda for this last day?
I have been a horrible slacky-slacker person for this read-a-thon, when it comes to actually reading. BUT I've been very hard at work with Wobble, so I should forgive myself, right?! I only completed Written in Fire (4 stars). I started Last to die but am only 15% through it. I will probably finish my other audiobook tonight (Project 731), which I went back to last night after I finished Written in Fire, but I started it before the RaT and it's not task related. I'll be glad to at least get another book done. :)
2: Did you add any of the recommendations to your TBR? Which one(s)?
Not so far, no. There were some on my radar that I've debated, but that's about it. I don't tend to read what everyone else is reading.
3: What is it like where you live? Tell us a little about your town/city.
I am in a little mountain town in NC called Sparta. While it's bigger than where I grew up, which as mentioned in my last post doesn't even qualify as a town, it's not much bigger. There are TWO stoplights (woohoo) and less than 2000 people in the city limits. There's nothing here, the closest Walmart is 30 minutes away and considering we don't have a car, it's not easy to get to (cost $10 each to take their car service). I haven't explored much of the area, cuz no car. Someday I hope we can get a car and I can explore and visit all the little places around, instead of being stuck here.
4: What is your favorite restaurant? What foods do you like most? Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share?
Why did I feel the need to ask this question and make me miss my FAVORITE restaurant?! It's Chili's and we haven't been to one since we moved up here, so it's been over 4 years now (moved here May 20, 2012). I miss it. I'm also missing Pizza Hut. If we could go anywhere, it'd be Chili's and then Pizza Hut.
No favorite recipes. Once recently got a crock pot and have made some pretty good meatloaf in it. I never was much of a cook but I've been doing it a lot since we've moved here and I'm actually not bad at it, so my Hubby says. :)

I finished The Elephant Whisperer on Saturday morning and loved it! As of today, I'm half way through The Fifth Assassin and will probably get another good chunk read before the day's over. I like it so far. Not in love but there's nothing I can put my finger on to say I don't like it either.
2: Did you add any of the recommendations to your TBR? Which one(s)?
I've added a handful but haven't really had a chance to go through all the recommendations. I'm planning to do that before Wobble though.
3: What is it like where you live? Tell us a little about your town/city.
I'm currently living in Knoxville, TN. To be totally honest, I'm not wild about the city. I'm a beach girl. I was in Atlanta for four years through college, and I've been up here for two years, and I've decided I'm just meant to be on the coast. And where it doesn't snow! But Knoxville is nice, I guess. There's always something going on in the summer, and the fall is great with football season. We're also very close to the Great Smoky Mountains, so there's a lot for outdoorsy people close by.
4: What is your favorite restaurant? What foods do you like most? Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share?
I do love Market Square in downtown. It's got a ton of local restaurants. I love Blue Coast and Tupelo Honey Cafe for brunch. Cafe 4 has a delicious chicken and waffles dinner option. And Stock & Barrel has the best burgers.

1: What book(s) have you finished for the read-a-thon and what do you think of them? What book is on the agenda for this last day?

Plan to start

2: Did you add any of the recommendations to your TBR? Which one(s)?
I haven't had a chance to really look at the recommendations yet.
3: What is it like where you live? Tell us a little about your town/city.
Charlotte, North Carolina. Named after Queen Charlotte, Charlotte is also called the Queen City. Wow, not too sure what to say. Well, next weekend we have the Cocoa Cola 500 (NASCAR) and starting today we have Speed Week in Uptown Charlotte which is a lot of fun. Not too sure what concerts we have this year.
4: What is your favorite restaurant? What foods do you like most? Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share?
Wow, we have a bunch of restaurants. I love Mexican.
As far as recipes. The one I get asked most about is for fudge that I make every year. Most people are surprised on how easy it is to make.
For a double batch *(10 lbs) It's easier than doing a single with the ingredients
6 cups sugar
10 ounces evaporated milk (1 1/3 cup)
3 sticks of butter
2 bags of 12 ounce bag of semi sweet chocolate chips
1 16 ounce bag of marshmallows (unfortunately Walmart is the only I have found them)
4 tsp vanilla
In large Dutch oven, combine butter, sugar and milk on medium low heat. constantly stir until it reaches a soft ball stage (If you do not have a candy thermometer let it come to a full and set timer for 5 minutes) Remover from heat, add vanilla and chips and mix until chips are melted. Add marshmallows. Stir until smooth. Add nuts if desired, then pour into 2 8x8 greased pans. Let cool.
Variations: You can substitute any with any baking chips.
If you use peanut butter chips, reduce milk by 1 ounce because they come in a 10 ounce bag instead of a 12.
Peppermint fudge: substitute peppermint extract for vanilla and peppermint crunch chips for nuts. White chocolate or dark chocolate chips works best for peppermint fudge.

1: What book(s) have you finished for the read-a-thon and what do you think of them? What book is on the agenda for this last day?
I have only finished Tell the Wolves I'm Home. I thought the first half was good, but the second half was much better. I overall really enjoyed the story and gave it 4 stars.
I am still working on Murder at the Vicarage, Stars Above, and The Art of Not Breathing. The Art of Not Breathing isn't that engaging for me and it seems to be taking a lot longer than I expected to read it.
2: Did you add any of the recommendations to your TBR? Which one(s)?
I don't think I added any of the recommendations, but I know I moved some that were already on my TBR up my list a bit. I did see some that looked interesting and I plan to go through the recommendations again after the read-a-thon and will probably add more then. Right now, I'm still trying to use all my free time for reading. :)
3: What is it like where you live? Tell us a little about your town/city.
I just moved to Virginia last fall and I'm still getting acclimated. I like being by the coast, but there are some touristy areas, such as colonial Williamsburg (where people still dress up like colonial times and do reenactments, etc), Busch Gardens, and Virginia Beach, so you need to take that into consideration when choosing where to live. Certain areas can be loud or have a lot of traffic certain times of the year. Other areas are incredibly rural. You can have one part of a town that has houses stacked right next to each other, then in another part of the same town there are large farms for miles. There are also a lot of military bases in the area, so different people coming and going. It's really different from what I'm used to, but I do really like the area in general.
4: What is your favorite restaurant? What foods do you like most? Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share?
My favorite restaurant is called The Hanover Street Chophouse and it is in Manchester, New Hampshire. I currently live in Virginia, but try to visit it every time my husband and I go back to NH.
I like a lot of different foods. Italian, Mexican, Chinese, and American restaurants are my most frequent go-to places. I typically don't like anything too spicy and I do not eat shellfish. I'm not allergic to it, I just don't care for it.

1: What book(s) have you finished for the read-a-thon and what do you think of them? What book is on the agenda for this last day?
Much to my disgust and dismay, I have managed to finish only one book so far: Broken Soul (Jane Yellowrock, #8) by Faith Hunter. But it was a good one. I absolutely loved it. :-)
I also read the intermediate story between Jane Yellowrock books eight and nine, "Not All Is as It Seems," in Blood in Her Veins: Nineteen Stories from the World of Jane Yellowrock. I loved it, too. :-)
For this final day of the W4W Readathon, I am hoping to finish Jane Yellowrock #9, Dark Heir, read the two between-nine-and-ten shorts in Blood in Her Veins, and start Jane Yellowrock #10, Shadow Rites. (But at the rate I'm reading this series I have the feeling that I'll be lucky to finish #9.)
2: Did you add any of the recommendations to your TBR? Which one(s)?
Yes, but I can't now remember which ones. I do know that I have saved the link to the folder that they're all in so that I can look closer at the recs later, at my leisure. :-)
3: What is it like where you live? Tell us a little about your town/city.
I live in the Sonora Desert, in Tucson, Arizona, U.S.A. It's usually sunny, often hot (sometimes very hot), and sometimes humid/muggy. We have an annual monsoon season, which should be starting next month in June. We have lots of dangerous and/or scary critters (coyotes, javelina, bobcats, bears, rattlesnakes, coral snakes, scorpions, and big, hairy spiders *shudder*). We also have lots of cactus varieties that leave and shed spines, so it's not really safe to go barefoot. And walking my dog is always an adventure.
4: What is your favorite restaurant? What foods do you like most? Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share?
My favorite restaurant here in Tucson is Rigo's, which is a Mexican restaurant. In Seattle, my favorite restaurant was a Thai restaurant, Siam's. Perhaps obviously, my favorite foods are ethnic - Mexican and Thai, especially - with an occassional steak and potato dinner thrown in. ;-)
I also LOVE potatoes. . .baked, mashed, boiled, fried, scalloped, au gratin. . .you cook 'em, I'll eat 'em. ;-)
I don't cook much, so I don't have any favorite recipes. The one thing I cook (and learned to cook from a recipe shared by a friend) is eggs cooked sunny-side-up over fried hash browns.

2: Did you add any of the recommendations to your TBR? Which one(s)? No, I haven't had time to really look at anyone else's responses yet except maybe sneaking some peaks at some cute pet pictures. Though, I plan to look before I start all my challenges for June.
3: What is it like where you live? Tell us a little about your town/city. I am currently living in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and it has rained all this long weekend. Though, I do not want to complain because this province needs it so desperately. Hopefully these days of rain have helped with the fires in Fort McMurray and people can get back to their home and their lives.
4: What is your favorite restaurant? What foods do you like most? Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share?
I don't feel like I can answer the first part of this question, other than some quick fast food once in a while, I only ever really want steak when I go to a restaurant, however, I much rather BBQ my own steak. If any of you live in Canada and have a Save-On-Foods near by there is a spice called California Spice I think by Magic Creations (could be wrong.), that is so amazing. My mouth waters when someone fires the BBQ up and there is still spice on it. Its soooo goooood.

I haven't finished any books yet, but I have been making progress on the books I'm reading (they're 500-700 page books a.k.a. monsters for me). My agenda for tonight is to read what is assigned for The Shadow of the Wind and then read as much as possible of The Name of the Wind :)
2: Did you add any of the recommendations to your TBR? Which one(s)?
I didn't add any this time. Just focusing on the reading part :)
3: What is it like where you live? Tell us a little about your town/city.
So, I live in Huntington Beach, California so it's pretty nice :) Every day, I drive to work by taking the PCH, so I always get a view of the ocean to start off my morning. It's been in the mid-60s to low-70s so not too bad, but not summer weather yet. Huntington Beach is one of those lay-back cities that people live in. If you want to go for a party, there are places you can go, but people rather go to LA for a party. A lot of people work southeast, like in Santa Ana/Costa Mesa/Tustin/Irvine, so lots of traffic on the 405 and the 5. Thankfully I don't have to mess with the interstates as much anymore.
4: What is your favorite restaurant? What foods do you like most? Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share?
My favorite restaurant? I'm going to say Olive Garden for right now. I feel like there's something else I should be saying, but it's the only thing coming to mind. I LOVE my carbs, which gets me in trouble lol: pasta, pizza, bread, etc.
For favorite recipes, there is one that tops the charts, but I can't share it because it's a family recipe that's gotta stay in the family :P Although, I do have an AMAZING pumpkin bread recipe. Not necessarily the right season, but when it comes time, this stuff is the bomb.
{To fill in recipe here <3}

I finished Landline (I loved this one! Gave it 5 stars! Rainbow Rowell is slowly becoming my favorite author!) and Lady Renegades (TBH, I was reading this book only to finish off the series. So, of course, I did not have any expectations. But, the book proved out to be not that bad and got a solid 3 stars.)
I'm reading A Thousand Splendid Suns now and will try to finish it 'coz it has to be returned to the library on Wednesday!
2: Did you add any of the recommendations to your TBR? Which one(s)?
I haven't gone through many recs. But, I've added a rec to my TBR- The Game.
3: What is it like where you live? Tell us a little about your town/city.
I live in a small town in Punjab, India- Hoshiarpur. We have the extreme type of weather here. The heat in the summer season and the cold in the winter season nearly kill me every single time. The city's not that developed, but, it is quite contained. There's a post office, a couple of cinemas, quite a lot of markets and all the other stuff. The outskirts of the city have a mixture of forests and farms. So, yeah, it's a pleasant place to live in. But, I'm still not a big fan.
4: What is your favorite restaurant? What foods do you like most? Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share?
I don't have any favorites when it comes to restaurants. But, I like Pizza Hut a lot. (I love pizzas, lol!)
My favorite foods probably are pizza, pasta, Indian cuisine, Chinese cuisine and especially, Indian street food. For those of you who aren't familiar with Indian street food, it is a speciality of India. We Indians love a touch of spices in our food. So, of course, our street food is abundant in that. The main Indian street foods are golgappas, chaat and bhel.
No recipes to share! I'm not much of a cook.

I finished The Mamo Murders and The Poet Prince. Today's project was Struck
2) Did you add any of the recommendations to your TBR?
Not yet, but I'm having fun reading them all!
3) What is it like where you live? Tell us a little about your town/city? I live in Kaneohe, on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, USA. It's a small-ish town, more like a sprawling suburb, really. We're about 13 miles away from the capital of Honolulu. We have only one nice restaurant, about 5 other eat-in places and lots of fast food. We have a sad mall, quite a few mini-malls and 2 theaters -- not much else. We have a beautiful view of the majestic Koolau Mountains and ocean view of Kaneohe Bay. I have lived here my entire life, so I tend to take it for granted. It really is spectacular...
4) What is your favorite restaurant? What foods do you like most? Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share? Don't laugh, but my favorite restaurant is Olive Garden! That's because we don't have one here. I also love Koa House right down the street. They have the best eggs benedict and banana pancakes...
My favorite food would probably be pizza. I love Italian & Mexican food. Can't resist pasta or chocolate. Life is uncertain, eat dessert first.
Here's the easiest recipe in the world!
Grease a 6 quart Crockpot. Place a 3-4 lb. beef chuck roast inside. In a large bowl, mix the following together until well-blended: 1 package of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix, 1 package of Good Seasons Italian dressing mix and 1 package of brown gravy mix (any brand) along with 3/4 cup of water. Pour over meat and turn to coat. Cover slow cooker and cook on high for 1 hour. Turn down to low and cook for 7 hrs. more. The meat is fall apart tender, perfectly seasoned and delicious!

1: What book(s) have you finished for the read-a-thon and what do you think of them? What book is on the agenda for this last day?
I have been a horrible slacky-slacker person..."
Hey Karsyn! Sorry to hear about your lack of dining options. And here I was complaining. We have Pizza Hut about 2 blocks from our house, but never go because my husband *gasp!* does not like pizza! The nearest Chili's is about half an hour away. However I think it would be waay cool just to be able to shout, "This is SPARTA!" :)

Day 4
**Day 4 Questions**
1: What book(s) have you finished for the read-a-thon and what do you think of them? What book is on the agenda for this last day?
None finished, though I should be done with A Gathering of Shadows here soon.
2: Did you add any of the recommendations to your TBR? Which one(s)?
I did not, though I had a lot of my TBR list confirmed by being recommended, hah.
3: What is it like where you live? Tell us a little about your town/city.
It's pretty laidback here in Ohio. Right now is my favorite time of year. No more cold weather! It's currently gorgeous outside and I'm stuck at work. I live in Dayton, so it's not one of the bigger cities which is just how I like it. There's not a lot to do in the immediate area, but Columbus and Cincinnati are only about an hour away in either direction. It's nice :)
4: What is your favorite restaurant? What foods do you like most? Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share?
My favorite restaurant near where we live is Osaka's. It's a Japanese steakhouse and everything they make is scrumptious. Currently, however, I'm on a Mexican food kick, which is another favorite of mine. Asian/Mexican cuisine is probably at the top of my list of delicious things. I don't have a recipe to share, though. I'm not the best of cooks, heh.
