First came across this on You Tube on the channel hosted by Elizabeth. Basically you have to pick 9 books from your TBR list that match the description below:

01. What book have you been unable to finish?

02. What book have you yet to read because you just haven't had the time?

03. What book have you yet to read because it's a sequel?

04. What book have you yet to read because it's brand new?

05. What book have you yet to read because you read a book by the same author and didn't enjoy it?

06. What book have you yet to read because you're just not in the mood for it?

07. What book have you yet to read because it's humongous?

08. What book have you yet to read because it was a cover buy that turned out to have poor reviews?

09. What is the most intimidating book in your TBR pile?

Good list there Trine. Not sure anyone has seen this thread yet

Tytti | 494 comments I did see this and thought about doing it, too, but then I realised that I would have either too many or not even one really to most points...

I've just used examples as most could have several options

1. Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel Not because it was terrible but because it was too long and involved for where my life was when I tried... will return to it at some point

2. Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susannah Clarke just so long

3. The Twelve by Justin Cronin as Paul listed. Have not yet finished The Passage, but will

4. The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Nonfiction by Neil Gaiman it won't be long before I tackle this one...!

5. Purity by Jonathan Franzen I didn't really love Franzen's The Corrections, but it was so acclaimed...

6. The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas someone or other never seems to appeal when I decide on the next read, although it's probably good

7. A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth I have it in hardback too, can barely lift it! One for retirement...

8. Oooh, don't know, I don't really read reviews. Or buy books just because of the cover, for that matter.

9. Remembrance of Things Past: Volume I - Swann's Way & Within a Budding Grove by Marcel Proust well, all of the volumes combined as a big read. One day...

Great list Lisa. Just using if I can squeeze The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Non-fiction in soon.

The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Nonfiction just became available on Overdrive. I am torn between starting that and getting through some of the books that I already have on my Kindle, on my bookshelf, and on loan. Tough reading decisions!

Kelly Gkountani (kelly_gk) | 1 comments 1. Το Βιβλίο της Μονέλ by Marcel Schwob The Book of Monelle by Marcel Schwob
I've never left a book unfinished up to this day but this one came dangerously close on multiple occasions. Only "50 Shades of Grey", Book 1, First Edition had been the only one (I couldn't get past page 100 and on top of that I had committed to a review which I never managed to deliver) but even that took its revenge last year-it needed quite a few editions before I could manage to finish it...
2. Νόμος περί τέκνων by Ian McEwan The Children Act by Ian McEwan
3. Illuminati Οι πεφωτισμένοι (Robert Langdon, #1) by Dan Brown Angels & Demons by Dan Brown
Actually I read "The DaVinci Code" first...
4. Νεαρό άσπρο ελάφι by Christos Chomenidis Νεαρό άσπρο ελάφι by Christos Chomenidis
5. Το πέμπτο βουνό by Paulo Coelho The Fifth Mountain by Paulo Coelho
6. Ο φύλακας της αδελφής μου by Jodi Picoult My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
7. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
8. Η μαγεία (The Secret, #3) by Rhonda Byrne The Magic by Rhonda Byrne
Actually I don't get deterred by bad reviews and to be fair this has very good reviews within its target audience. But that's the problem, I am not within the target audience of self-help books, it was a very impulsive buy, it looked good and was on special offer thus somehow ended up in my arms carrying 7 other well-researched books. A stowaway of sorts...
9. The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

PS. I just realized I'm only referring to physical books which I own and it didn't even cross my mind to check my digital library as well...

Ooh I do like a good list to fill in!

Mine are:

1. There are not many but the most recent has been The Owl Killers - seriously and unrelentingly dreary
2. Ha! there are LOADS! but one I have that I really want to get round to reading but haven't because it's long and not on a challenge list is: The Quincunx: The Inheritance of John Huffam
3. The Player of Games actually I have read the first book now, but haven't had the chance to start this one yet.
4. Haven't looked at new books lately so haven't got one lined up yet.
5. Breakfast of Champions I wasn't keen on Cat's Cradle
6. Our Ancestors: Cloven Viscount; Baron in the Trees; Non-Existent Knight
7. The Isles: A History
8. None - woohoo!
9. The Histories

message 16: by Pat (new)

Pat Morris-jones | 1373 comments 4 on the list are ....The Iliad. I leave you to guess which 4. I keep starting it, like it but, due to 4 reasons go onto something else. I have it in book form and on iBooks. No excuse.

Emma | 14 comments I love this list, I have about 100 unread books and about as many again on the kindle so I have lots to choose from.
Limiting myself to actual books as I really need to clear some space on my bookshelves:
1. The Sea, the Sea - I don't have many for this category as I am much better now at giving up on books that I don't like and taking them to the charity shop. I have kept hold of this one to have another go at as I do want to read it I just got distracted by other books when I was reading it.
2. This could apply to all my TBR books, but I will choose Wolf Hall for this one.
3. Wyrd Sisters - I am not sure if I am ever going to read this as I have not enjoyed the discworld books that I have read so far - I am a bit scared to admit that, I will probably get lots of TP fans telling me how wrong I am ;)
4. Housekeeping was the last book I brought but it was over a month ago now so not so brand new, I could have read it except for all the other books I already have waiting!
5. The Sense of an Ending - I have started Arthur & George by the same author but not yet finished it as I was not enjoying it that much, I didn't really like the writing style. Planning to try Arthur and George again though so I may change my mind.
6. Crime and Punishment - according to my brother this book is life changing and I am not ready to have my life changed yet.
7. Les Misérables
8. I don't have any that fit in this category, instead I have one that was brought for me as a gift that does not really appeal to me which I will use instead, which is One Plus One
9. Clarissa, or, the History of a Young Lady - intimidating due to its size, both the length and the physical size of the book, it will be heavy to hold!

I am very tempted to try and read all of these before the end of the year but I am not sure I could manage to read Wolf Hall, Les Miserables and Clarissa by the end of the year.

I might do another list with books from my Kindel that have not been read yet.

I think Terry Pratchett is brilliant, but he is not for everyone Emma

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Emma- Les Miserable has 4 whole chapters devoted to details of the sewerage system...if you skim read those and others it becomes a much shorter and more enjoyable read

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

I've never got to grips with Terry Pratchett

message 22: by Emma (new)

Emma | 14 comments Charlotte - Thanks for the advice on Les Miserable. I have read The Hunchback of Notra Dame and I remember 1 very long very detailed chapter on the layout and architecture of Paris and another on the architecture of the cathedral which I had to skip.

Haaze TBR Pile? You mean the TBR mountain with its numerous foothills? I fear I will lose my path between the ever growing stacks.....

message 24: by Sam (new)

Sam (aramsamsam) 01. What book have you been unable to finish?
I just put down John Steinbeck's East of Eden. I know many people love this book, and I can't really say anything against it. It just doesn't seem to be the right read for me at the moment.

02. What book have you yet to read because you just haven't had the time?
Hart und zart. Frauenleben 1920-1970. It is an anthology with essays by women about women's lifes in the 40ies to 60ies in Germany. The problm is that the book comes in this unhandy large format I can't take with me.

03. What book have you yet to read because it's a sequel?
I started the Dresden Files last year and somehow, book two, Fool Moon, remains on my tbr.

04. What book have you yet to read because it's brand new?
Well, there's a lot to choose from. I went on a book shopping spree on my vacation in Hay-on-Wye and Oxford. The very last book I picked up ist An Utterly Impartial History of Britain or 2000 Years of Upper Class Idiots In Charge.

05. What book have you yet to read because you read a book by the same author and didn't enjoy it?
There are a coupla of Paul Auster's books on my tbr that I never seem to get around to. I loved Moon Palace but didn't particularly enjoy any other of his books that I tried since. Maybe I should just go back and reread my favourite, right?

06. What book have you yet to read because you're just not in the mood for it?
The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon. I always mean to read it in winter, but when the time comes, I look at the book and just don't feel it.

07. What book have you yet to read because it's humongous?
The Man Who Laughs by Victor Hugo. Man, this book is big. But I loved Notre-Dame de Paris and the story fascinates me, so I need to get to it eventually.

08. What book have you yet to read because it was a cover buy that turned out to have poor reviews?
I don't do cover buys. I might cover buy a book I had already been interested in but might not have picked up in another edition.

09. What is the most intimidating book in your TBR pile?
2666 by Roberto Bolaño. Well over 1000 pages, plus it's said to be quite confusing with non-linear storytelling and all that postmodern jazz.
